Hi All,
I’m a retired electrician from the Detroit area. My question is, I need to replace some old two prong receptacles in my daughters 75 year old home. Code says I can install a GFCI receptacle in the first receptacle of a group of receptacles and install standard three prong receptacles...

Hey there!
I removed an old wall outlet. It had 9 wires connected to it. 3 sets of white, red and black wires. I want to install a new one. What outlet do I buy and how do I make the connections? The outlet is not controlled by a switch.
Thanks
Alain
New one for me...
Commercial building (museum), 3 phase board
16A MCB, 3 x 2.5mm singles run in 20mm conduit, ending up at an FCU. All fine.
The singles are red, blue, and yellow/green.
Red is used for L1, Blue is used for N
My gut reaction is that this is just too confusing and needs sorting...
Hello folks, could anyone advise where to get hold of blanks to cover the open fuse slots in this old Wylex bakerlite fuse box please ?
As well as the exposed 2 x line wires (red), terminals and bus bar - there is no lid to cover all the fuses.
The house owner said they have a quote to replace...

I have just had work done but not sure if this is acceptable as i am having doubts.
I have an existing 10 way 'Plastic' consumer unit, fitted in 2004.

Hi, I achieved passes in 2 parts of the old C certificate (project & regs) I missed out on the 3rd part (principles) & never returned to complete it. My question is, do I need to fully complete todays equivalent (2391-20) or is there a section in place of the old 'principles' that I can take to...
Hi,
I am looking to get an electrician to upgrade my consumer unit and do some work on circuits. At the same time, have been receiving letters from E-On about upgrading to smart meters - this was supposed to happen a few years ago but when they visited, they refused to carry out any work...
Hi Ladies and Laddies,
Could anyone help identify the terminals for this old combi? I arrived at the property which has been undergoing a renovation for the rental market, the client reported the boiler not working, when I began investigating the flex cables going into a mechanical time clock...
I got given a ring doorbell (hardwired) and an Amazon echo as it was part of a bundle. In my house i can't see any chime box at all, but after taking the old button off the wires once again look utterly ancient/super flimsy. I think they are also dead, because i wrapped them round the 2 screws...
During some down time, I was comparing tools tool carrying bags etc, e/when I harked back to the days of my mentots carrying their tools in a old Army ruck sack, none of yer VETO Pro packs or Tough built in those days, yet most of my mentors produce far better results than some of the Sparks...
Ok so the scenario is there is an old MICC or pyro 1.5mm 2 core cable supplying the garage run underground on a 16A circuit breaker that is RCD protected.
In the garage there is a water pipe fed from the house, at the house it is bonded using 10mm, at the garage bonded with 6mm. I think the...

I've got an old furnace fan I kept the last time mine was replaced. I'd like to use it for various purposes. It has a red, black, yellow and orange wire. Also a purple going to/from I'm guessing a capacitor on the side and a green ground wire. Can I wire it up to be used on 110v ? I have...
New switch has an earth terminal in the back box and COM, 1 WAY, 2 WAY on the switch. My power in and pond pump have live, neutral and earth wires, what goes where please?
I carry out some maintenance in a local cinema which is now 100 years old and every time I go into the projection room I look at this old decommissioned rectifier and realise how easy things are for use nowadays with all our tools and modern electronics.
I'm guessing this rectifier was built to...
Apologies for using this forum once only, but grandson likes to explore and these industrial cables are the other side of my fence and run further in to their garden, slightly hidden,, and I worry about his safety if he pushes through the fence (he's a little rascal)
