Hello to all of you out there, I'm interested in your opinions on a testing matter.I was doing tests at a small office today and one of the appliances was a shredder, one of the larger types, about 3 ft tall with a main body made from a contiboard type material and the shredder unit sat on...
Hi,
I'm a new member, and found this forum whilst looking for feedback on a training provider. It's been interesting reading some of the comments, and I would love to have your honest answer to the question - is it worth training to become a sparky? I'm looking at doing the full package at Able...

There's a flat I did some work on recently that has just had 3 storage heaters taken out and the girl who's gaff it is wants new heating in.

Guys,
Have a 18v 1.2 ah Black and Decker Cordless Drill. Have lost the charger :(
I have just bought an 18v 1.0 ah charger from Maplins.
Question is the difference between the 1.2 ah Drill and the 1.0 ah Charger. Is this safe? I presume it wouldn't be if it was the other way round but will...
Hi all,
Not trying to push/promote sales etc, just a serious question really to try to gauge market demand.
Without getting into the discussions of whether you do or don't need an RCD device to protect the PV installation (quite happy to discuss off-line if people wish to), what is the...
Hi guys,
Im getting some mixed opinion about how i should go about wiring in a new induction hob and cooker.
The current cooker is going to be moved above the work surface and built into the kitchen furniture about 4 ft from the floor while the induction hob is going to be fitted into the...
hello all,
what would you code a bathroom fan that has no isolator, fed direct from light fitting?
was thinking code 4 as does not comply but still can be isolated via mcb the same way you would isolate a light fitting etc.
also had to issue a code 1 for a db with enough room along the...
I'm after your opinions, I posted the other day and have since spoken to my electrician and it appears I got a few bits mixed up, basically I'm converting a pub into a single domestic dwelling.
The building has 3 phase and earth is supplied by the armour from the main suply head.
We have now...
Hi if you are are running 6mm T&E in plastic trunking fastened to masonry what installation method is this? I would normally use table 4D5 of the brb for T&E but nothing there quite fits so would 4D2A, ref method B and 38amps be the best fit - cheers.
This poll should really be for approved electricians. Asking the question, how many years LESS commercial experience should todays graduating electricians have to have than I did ?
A. No years less at all, because the scope of the electrical craftsman has not decreased.
B.1 year less.
C.2 years...
Hi,
Client has bought some 240v downlights in their kitchen, which are not fire rated and would like me to install. However, a suspended ceiling has been put in, below the original ceiling.
How would I go about this?
Concerned that by drilling the hole in the new ceiling, then drilling a...
I've had new sockets installed in my living room which the electrician has installed by chasing out the wall to put the cable. All was good until after he'd left and I went into the adjoining 2 rooms to discover that he had knocked huge chunks of plaster off the wall presumably by being overly...
In one of the rooms of my house the lights flicker here and there, not too often but enough to get you annoyed. The light bulbs are new and from i can tell it doesn't look like its the light socket itself. Can anyone give me a rough idea of what it may be?
P.S. We haven't yet called an...
Hi i have just installed a new fan off the lighting circuit in a bathroom but upon testing i realised that there was no earth in the distribution board. I know you can't fail lights with no earth aslong as they are class 2 plastic fittings. So is this ok or will i have to run a seperate aerth to...
The local housing company I do a lot of work for has asked me to put 2 sockets in a bedroom (currently without any!) in one of their houses (surface trunking). After a quick look at the site the solution seemed to be to drill through the wall behind a hallway socket, and use an RCD fused...
Its been one of those questions that I have had numerous answers for.
Periodic codes for defects and how to grade them has been one question that has caused more than one argument over a cuppa. I grade things as I find them and not always agree with the Electrical safety guide or NICEIC. On my...
A colleague of mine has been working for a certain client and it has come to light that for whatever reason he did not issue a certificate or register the job as we all know we should.
Another sparks has gone to the same house and an earth reading was slightly high and he asked to see the...
