Hi Guys,
Can somebody shed any light on why socket outlets rated at 32Amps or greater do not require RCD protection under BS7671?
Presumably theres some maths behind it?
And presumably the only exception is in a TT earthing System?
Cheers chaps
Section 411.3.3 says:
" In a,c. systems, additional protection by means of an RCD in accordance with Regulation 415.1 shall be provided for:
(i) socket-outlets with a rated current not exceeding 20 A that are tor use by ordinary persons and are intended

I was wondering if any one has installed anything like what I have been asked to do.

Which of the amendments to the 16th edition Regs made it mandatory for socket outlets to be protected by a 30mA RCD for all new work?
I've been very surprised this week to find on a pre-work check for a house built in 1995 that there is no RCD protection whatsover on the installation. Memera...
Am I correct in saying that a light switch (or even a socket for that matter) can now be installed inside the bathroom as long as the circuit is protected by an RCD and also it is outside Zone 1?
Thanks for feedback
Hi,
I'm in need of some help. What is the best way of acheiving a HDMI connection from a remote HD source to the flat screen on the wall? All cables concealed and its all flat plate..
Bought a couple of these HDMI outlets, but can't honestly see that it'll work, even with a 47mm box.
I'v seen...
Sure this question has been asked many times. Point me to previous post if need be. What coding do you use on pre 17th edition socket outlets that would now be installed with rcd protection. However currently not protected.

Hi all, Considering mounting my T.V on the wall in my bedroom and as I'm decorating I thought I might as well put a few more sockets in instead of having extension leads on the floor and wires hanging down the wall.
My question is this. I opened up the socket that is there and what I thought...
Most new kitchens you seem to have no option but to install sockets (for wash machine/dish washer etc) under the sink in the base unit.
I do not believe there is any reg's restricting this but some kitchen fitters i come across still seem to think it is taboo (though they do it anyway).
Am i...
Hi all,
I've been looking to get hold of a 4g outdoor socket box with an appropriate IP rating (54 - 66) & 30mA RCD - I only seem to be able to find 2g options or weatherproof boxes that hold an extension lead, which I 'd prefer not to use.
The requirements from the client are to supply 2...
Can someone please clear this up for me:
Are unswitched socket outlets (power) still allowed to be used under the Regs. If yes, where and why? Is it ok when there's a fused spur attached...? I don't know.
Being told in college that they're not used anymore, but then I'm helping to fit them...

these are not controlled by a spur or 20dp switch.
is unplugging enough to be classed as isolation.

HI, I've been asked to do a pir on a domestic installation, Means of earthing is a TT system using a 100 mA (not s-type) rcd as the main switch, covering all circuits. House is a rental property...Is there any real problem with this with regard to regs? would appreciate any advice thanks.

I am required to wire a couble of flu's into a small extention within a building.

Hi everybody,
I've been asked at college- when installing additional lights to a house, whether it is necessary to install a seperate circuit when the existing lighting circuit already contains 10 lighting outlets. I know as a rule of thumb it's 10 lighting outlets per circuit, but what...
