Been discussing at work today the permitted cables routes 522.6.6 and have had a dissagreement on where cables can actually be run. We are all aware the regs state 150mm from corners, from the top of wall, horizontal out of point and vertical out of a point. So my question is if you have a lets...
I was under the impression that solar installs fall under permitted development and don;t require a planning application. Looking at the planning portal there are conditions which seem they would cause a problem for nearly every installation. See below (from the planning portal)
All the...
Has anyone actually read the New Planning rules? A rather important change has been made and i've heard nothing about it.
The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Amendment) (England) Order 2012
I will highlight the part that will kill off the longed for pre-july rush...

A new Part 43 is being added to the permitted development regulations that finally allows microgeneration on non-domestic properties. This comes into force from 6th April but applies in England only.
There are a few major differences from the equivalent domestic permitted development, such as...
ive just been to look at a job where there are several barns. The customer is wanting a 11kw system installed, is planning required for the panels? any information would be gratefull!!
According to BS7671, cables chased into a wall and plastered over must be within 6 inches of the ceiling or corners or running in line with an accessory either vertically or horizontally. Or they can be mounted on the surface of the wall. These rules are intended to prevent someone unwittingly...
Hi
When doing the C&G Solar PV course Iwas told that a condition of permitted development was that the panels should be no closer than 300mm to any edge of the roof.
Can someone confirm this for me, as I can't find this in black and white in any documentation.
If this is the case can someone...
A friend of mine needs the cable to her shower upgrading, due to a fault, arising from an overload.
The previous cable was 6mm sq and needs upgrading to a 10mm sq and she has been told that by British Gas that she either needs a brand new CU, or the new shower can be fitted externally in a...
Hi All,
im C&G 2330 Level III qualified, with the 17th Edition but im not presently a scheme member, due to being really poor. I don't have my 2391 but aim to do so when l can afford test equipment.
My question: Am I permitted to perform a periodic, using calibrated 17th Edition approved test...
I know putting Solar PV on a dwellinghouse is permitted development (subject to some exceptions) under SI 675/2008. But what about a village hall? I am assuming that they would always require planning permission as they are not a dwellinghouse? Anyone know better?

Bruce
On an Installation Cert in the 'Max Permitted Zs' column should i put the tabulated values in the regs or should i put the corrected values(x0.8 rule of thumb)????
My guess would be corrected values as that would be max zs at ambient temperature at the time of test?
Cheers peeps,
Dan:cool:
I've just been told by our local authority that we need planning permission for any agricultural/commercial buildings, that it doesn't come under permitted development. Has anyone else come accross this????
Hi -
I may be out of touch with permitted development or this may be new news.
Ive just spoke with East Ridings County Council this morning about a PV job in Bridlington which is in a conservation area, they informed me it is PD wether its in a conservation area or not. This is going...
Looking through the BRB and OSG regarding Max Zs (table 41.3), would these figures now only be applicable for circuits that do not require an RCD?
Table 41.5 gives max Zs for 30mA RCD as being 1667 ohms
Hi all, this is my first post so be gentle! I'm a qualified electrician to the 16th edition, and also have my c&g 2391 (inspection and testing). My girl friends Dad owns a furniture shop and is the landlord of the two flats above it. He requires a periodic inspection and test to be carried out...
Spoke to a spread and a house holder today and asked them if they were aware of safe zones for cable routings ie 150mm down from ceiling and out from corners or horizontally/vertically from switches sockets etc. They didn't have a clue about this apart from directly vertically above or below...
How do l calculate the maximum cable length for a maximum Zs value?
Isn't there also correctional factors to be applied for ambient temperature?
