This is a SWA question.
If I have a length of SWA that is not long enough to reach a plastic CU can I jubilee clip around the armour and run an earth braid or cable to the CU.
Basically what has happened is the new CU has been dropped down to a position lower than the old one because it is...
I need to run a lighting circuit cable up a bedroom wall into the loft from CU on ground floor. For ease and minimising cable length I see two options. Shown by red lines in diagram.
Questions are
1) In option 1 does the position of the window break the corner safe zone?
2) In option 2 is it...
Is it acceptable to do a normal lighting circuit but have 2 x 1.5mm twin and earths coming out of 1 6a MCB for a full rewire?
Reason being is that the house has an awkward step upstairs which makes it difficult to get cables to the other two rooms.
Thanks
Hi,
I've read a fair few posts that have suggested to newbies that building their own test rig is a good way to learn and start running through testing scenarios.
I have a fair amount of electrical gubbins in my shed (I'm a real magpie) including various patress boxes, sockets, switches, fused...
Hi All,
I changed a CU yesterday and discovered that the lighting circuit had no CPC, just twin cable. Anyway, I duly noted this on the certificate and advised him to have circuit rewired.
He now wants me to add some downlights to this circuit but doesn't want it rewired. I'm gonna walk away...
I am currently changing an old consumer unit for a new RCD protected split board. One of the circuits is a 6mm submain circuit protected by a 32A MCB that exits the house, crosses the court yard via a catenary wire, and enters the garage 4 way RCD protected board. Is it ok to put this circuit...
What would be conceder the best practice for testing an off peak board and associated circuits during a periodic inspection. In particular the ZE and ZS when there is no supply on?
Hi
I am thinking of knocking up a test rig to practice on:)
Does anyone know what sort of spec is used for the rigs they test 2391 on?
Ideally I want to be able to mess about with the effect of rcd, transformers, light bulbs etc on test readings.
What sort of resistors should I use to...

Hi All,
I have set up a training wall in my shed and i am looking for some ideas on different circuits to built just as practice. I am currently training to become a spark and just wanting to put in a bit more practical as i find easier to understand. Is there any more complicated lighting...
I know that nobody likes talking about costings and of course prices vary region to region however I have been asked by my local council if I would like to be included on their lists to carry out PIR's where the average cost is £80 now I know that I couldn't operate at such a cost (I could but...
Hello. I'm new on here and new to the trade.
I'm due to take my EAL level 2 multiple choice exam on monday. Are there any practice papers or questions about on the internet?
I'm pretty confident but a bit of practice never hurt. I've tried searching but not had much luck.
Thanks
I know it depends on its inststallation method but what is the max current carrying capacity of 1.5mm swa 3 core?
If im looking at the correct table 4D4A it says 18a clipped direct.
But then this manufactures spec says 32a. (page 3) http://www.alertelectrical.com/upload/pdf/329armoured.pdf...
