Hello all, my question is regards to a eicr. I have come to a property to do a eicr and have come across the lighting circuit neutrals in single insulated with no earthing. The live have earthing, which are single but the neutrals have none. Would this constitute a c2 or a c3. Thank you in advance
I am wondering what the installation methods should be for cables run under floor boards and then into stud walls but without thermal insulation...102,103 dont seem relevant and so my understanding leads me to think it would be a cross between c for clipped direct under the boards and then b for...
I know it needs to be replaced, but what actually causes a 3 pole breaker to suddenly stop being able to stay in the on position please, and that's even without it connected to anything (i.e. the switch mechanism makes the correct sounding click when push up, but immediately springs down)????
Good morning all. I am new to the forum and hoping someone can help with a query i have. Currently i have a double light switch which operates two separate lights at each end of my kitchen. I would like to change the light switch to a single allowing me to turn on/off both lights at the same...
Hi all,
Firstly, apologies if this thread is in the incorrect area of the forums.
I'm currently undertaking a degree in Health & Safety - I'm about to begin an assignment in which a portable generator was housed in a confined space, which, ultimately led to the death of an individual through...
Been asked to carry out the electrics in a new build for someone I know. Although I’m a qualified electrician I’m not registered with Select or a similar body, I know it is advised to use someone from one of these bodies to carry out work & sign it off but where would I stand legally if I just...
Hi
I’ve just had a new kitchen and an induction hob installed which is on its own 32amp rcbo but my question is the total load rating is 7.35 for the induction hob which is just below 32amp if I’ve worked that out properly and it’s fitted to a cooker switch with a socket on which will have...
Dear all, firstly, thanks for being there. I must make clear, I'm not a sparky, I'm a Fire Risk Assessor, but I've been asked some specific questions about external wiring and I don't know where to find the information. Any clues where to look please? The questions are about the standard/quality...
Hi all, really sorry if this question appears silly! We are in the process of buying a property, but have yet to exchange contracts. The property had an extension done, which was issued with a completion certificate. However, it appears the electrics were not signed off due to a number of...
Hi all...
I have heard that mandatory EICRs in England (and Wales (?)) may be coming into force this summer.
A letting agent I do a fair bit of work for posed a question just now that I didn't know the answer for.. They asked if a satisfactory EIC has been issued (say for a board change), then...
I have just bought a new house and am looking at the electrical installation certificate. It is dated 17/06/19 but the certificate is done to 17th edition. I thought the 18th Edition came into force in Jan 2019? The only thing that highlighted this was my wife tried to switch the extractor fan...
I have a not so old filament set of lights and as much as it would be easier to bin them and buy some LED they have sentimental value and I'm not sure binning them is terribly "green".
The lights state rated at 24V and 18W. I'm not sure if I have the correct power supply but it states 24V 5VA...
Hi there, I am on my last year of my apprenticeship and have started the nvq part. Long story short I want to start writing up my evidence of work (with provided pictures of me carrying out the work), however I can't figure out a structure to follow to write out a job.
If anyone is currently...
I realise the condition of the gas meter is not relevant to an EICR, but while testing at a consumer unit above the gas meter in the photo, I kept wondering about the inverted-U section of lead pipe between the meter and pipe going into the floor.
The pipe is in a position where it is liable to...

Hi guys. Just bought a Honeywell CM700 series wireless room stat/programmer with BDR91 relay box/receiver to link with Worcester Bosch 28CDi combi boiler.
Using a 4-core will take L/N feed from boiler to L/N in receiver and route the Ls/T1-A and Lr/T2-B.
But there are 2 L terminals in the...
Hi,
We had a EV charger installed recently over the past day ie 32amp 7.2kw. In the fuse cupboard I’ve attached before and after photos.
I have a 100amp fuse for the house.
For the new EV board setup, should the 2 grey cables entering the EV board (10mm) be the same 25mm thickness as the...
Hi I’m planning on getting my house re-wired soon, the installation at the minute is an ancient old fuse board with all sorts going on in there! My main fuse is rated at 60 amp and my question is should I get the dno in to upgrade if needed to 80 or 100 amp! Am I best doing this before or after...
Hello All, I have just purchased an extractor fan to fit in my Utility Room and trying to understand the accompanying wiring diagrams.
The unit has an integral Humidistat and Timer.
The 2x wiring options they show are as per drawings attached but I can't understand why, in Diag A, it shows the...
