Hi - sorry, I haven't been on the forum for ages! Its that long I cant see how to attach photos now!
I have a couple of queries following some work carried out by another contractor and would appreciate a second opinion ( or as many as possible )
One of my customers has just purchased some...
We are buying a newbuild property and due to the regulations, we are told the consumer unit needs to go in the dining room (as boxes are on the external wall in that location).
As the room will be painted dark grey we want to hide the box inside a cabinet by removing the back from the cabinet...
Has anyone sat the new 2394/2395 version of inspection + testing? I did the original 2391 several years ago but because it is now obsolete, I had to update it. I found a lot of the content on the new course was focused on how to ensure compliance when recording/reporting results rather than the...
Hi all. Chatting with a friend earlier on and he happened to mention that his house has no RCD protection. Now this is an old house, he has never had any work done on it as far as I am aware of in the last 35 years. he owns the property but originally it was council owned. I am astonished that...

Anyone know the regs for installing mains, interlinked alarms in a B&B in Scotland?
The property has 5 bedrooms in total, 3 of which are rented out during season. I've found some
info suggesting that if there's more than 3 rooms then every room should have a mains powered
(interlinked) alarms...
Has anyone else had this demand?
NAPIT are now attempting to insist that we need to go through our records of hundreds of installs since 2010 and fully account for a 15% discrepency between the number of MCS certs issued and the number of building regulations notified via NAPIT.
The vast...
Hi all,
It says that if you install a new circuit you produce an EIC. Is that for the whole installation as well? or just that circuit. As the rest of the install may not pass current regs.
Many thanks

While the wiring for an extractor fan / isolation switch for one has been installed no actual extractor fan has been. I was wondering whether this is required to for the Electrician to sign-off/for regulations?

Had a call from a landlord today they said they had had a new boiler fitted and the installer said the heating was taken off the ring main and was against regulations.
Maybe not ideal but can't see as it is against regs.Anyone know if it's a oil or gas regulation.
Cheers
Hi all, Over here in Ireland we had two registered bodies ECSSA and RECI which you needed to be a member of one to get connected to the grid. Since 2015 our energy regulator awarded the tender to RECI ( Safe Electric) now the only regulatory body a strange move in my opinion seeing that the...
Hi guys,
Does anybody know what the rules are concerning new builds and heating systems. Currently going through planning application for a new build and I have heard that gas central heating systems are no longer allowed by a guy from the council and that we need to have a heat pump system...

Hi all. I recently moved to a new house and quickly removed the cooker and bought a new one. I bought the Bosch HBA13B150B which is a 2.9kW unit. The old cooker was plugged into a regular 13A socket on the wall behind the cooker. The electrician who fitted the new cooker just plugged it into...
From what I understand the 18th edition regs are expected in 2018. I just wonder what impact Brexit will have if any on the proposed date of the publication, the content and what is likely to happen moving forward.
The CENELEC requirements were adopted in the 15th edition but if we are no...
Hi Forum

The building regulations 4(3) require that on completion of work in an existing building, the building should comply with the current building regulations, or if it did not comply before the work began, be no worse...
