Hello!
I need to wire an extension, and I don't normally do this type of work. Just need to confirm where the wires go, so the downstairs ring will come from the floor joists and chase down the wall to their position downstairs. Now the upstairs (1st floor) will I need to just do a small chase...
I'm fitting downlighters to my lounge.
Therefore I am interested in how cables are secured in the ceiling void and what is the best pratice to adopt.
Please can you advise regulation wise and what you would do in this installation.
Many thanks Simon.
I am hereby admitting inexperience with 2 things:
1. Getting a cable (screened alarm cable) into loft space - I was looking at it yesterday and was thinking about sending it into the loft via the underside of the uPVC Bargeboard but don't know the soffit structure behind this and if this is...
I went to price a job up a couple of weeks ago that I was unsuccessful with winning. Nevermind, can't win them all.
Today though I've been trying to annalyze why I have not been winning some of the work that I've been quoting on.
With a day rate of £160 and pricing materials at the Screwfix...
Hi people,
I'm sure there is one 'simple answer' to this but between those on site we now have a multitude of opinions.... So, thouight I'd ask people with a bit more experience what the best way of doing this is. The supply company has changed it's mind on the position for the meter for a few...

do you chase out either side of noggin and cut into the noggin, so...
Chaps, are there any worries routing cables alongside a soilstack?
The customer has an MDF framework all around it, running from the loft to the garage, and he says there are a few plumbing pipes going down the same 'cupboard' but no electrical cables right now.
Is this common practice? It...
if someone could clear this up for me and finally give me a straightforward answer i would be very gratefull.
when installing new meter tails that are not in a safe zone, ie 150mm from ceiling/angled walls etc and not going directly to an accessory, if they are buried in a wall and protected by...

Chaps,
Is it OK, regulations-wise, to run my cable across the top of the ceiling joists in the attic or do they need to be clipped beneath the top line if running in-line with the joists and drilled through if running perpendicular?
Thanks
Hi,
This is my first post on the forum so, hello to you all!
I've recently finished my training and am now doing some jobs in the 'real world' finally. However as I'm sure you'll all agree, it's one thing learning in college and another putting it into practice. As such, I've come across...

Hi,
I'm replacing a Main Bond to Water which needs to run across a kitchen.
The ideal route would be straight across the floor because, at the moment, it is yet to receive a final 'skim' of 50mm and will then be tiled over.
Is it acceptable to run it like this - which I suppose is similar...
So planning on running a cable from the house down the garden to supply power for some garden lights.
I am planning to route the cable through some black MDPE pipe (highlighted to state electrical wires inside).
My question is:
Should I drill holes in the pipe to let any fluid get out?
I...
Hi all,
I'm just trying to route some cable accross a kitchen which has a flat roof. I've had a look at the ceiling void and could pass a cable over the top of all the joists / rafters (there's quite a good gap between the top of the joist and the insulation) but would that contravene the...

Just completed 15 new builds and on 3 properties the main bonding was run through the pvc sleeve which the gas pipe runs through the caverty wall to the meter outside.
Have now been told that they may not connect the gas meter to those properties unless the bonding is re-routed.
Cannot find any...
