We are steadily replacing old incadescent, CFL and halogen bulbs in our house with LED bulbs. They tend to be the 2700k for the warm colour. We tried the daylight colour ones but they were too bright.
From my standard grade physics I know that LEDs are low powered devices that need direct...
hi, I’m wondering if there is a safe isolation sequence obviously first steps are:
Ask to isolate
Lock off and put up signs keep key safe
Then prove leads working on proving unit
Do the 10 steps- (do you have to do these in an exact order?) some tell me no and some people say yes
Back on...
Hi,
Quick Q from a newbie. I had a NICIEC registered electrician install an isolation switch and extractor fan in my downstairs bathroom. I’m now replacing one of the down lights and found what is a surprising mess of wires in the false ceiling, all joined together with a terminal block (centre...
Hi all,
I visited a property yesterday which consists of two shops with a flat above each shop. This was a preliminary visit on behalf of the new owners who are looking to refurbish and rent out. I went to check out the supply, bonding etc. and found a single phase supply feeding both shops and...
Hi,
Appreciate any advice and help. I just moved from UK to an old house in Denmark and would like to install a large brass chandelier (1970s).
There was no ceiling light when I moved here, but the wires are there. I attach here a photo. There is green/yellow wire that I presume is Earth, blue...
In this large community center they decided to replace the gas central heating with electric. Upstairs some 19 new panel heaters were connected to about 4 ring main circuits, some were spurred, others just with 13a sockets. The heaters are 1 Kw but 2 are 1.5Kw. Upstairs everything runs off a...
Hi everybody,
I have no idea what constitutes safe wiring but I thought some of the stuff around my fuse box looks a bit suspicious. Any thoughts, help and advice would be much appreciated.

Hi all,
I think I'm posting this in the right place - apologies if not. I'm wondering if I could ask for a bit of help here.
I'm renovating a house for myself to live in, and I've spoken to an electrician this week to have it fully rewired. There appears to be a problem though with my planned...
I follow a few plumbers on youtube throughout their daily job tasks etc etc, just watched a video and the bloke claimed you had to be gas safe to remove a boiler cover.
I never knew this and i have connected and carried out PCB fault finding on a fair few, i must be a rule breaker.
I have wired a lamp with a brass lamp holder and I don’t know how to test it with my multi meter that I bought. I want to test that it’s earthed and safe to use and also that it won’t blow my bulb.
Any help would be great !

Hi there,
I'm a homeowner looking to get an Artex'd ceiling boarded and skimmed by a plasterer. The ceiling has a standard ceiling light in the middle of it, which I'll need to remove and then reattach slightly lower after the plastering job.
What would you recommend to do to make the wiring...
Hi all. I'm currently a 4th year apprentice waiting to undertake his trade test this week. The part I am sitting is safe isolation and I was looking for some advice regarding the test. I have attached below the information I have been given. I was just wondering if somebody could confirm for me...
hi everyone,
When demonstrating safe isolation on the lighting circuit on am2 do you operate the switches and test each time you operate.
Or, just operate the switches in every position then just test once at the 2d light fitting?
Also, when commencing a ZE test would you recommend setting the...
Hi all
I wondered what people's opinions are on the Electrek LED light bulbs available from Poundland for the bargain price of... you guessed it... £1!!! (On closer inspection it would look like they are actually made by/for Poundland too.)
I have had a couple of them for probably the best...

Been living in our current house for a couple of years and finally turning our spare bedroom (junk room at the moment) into a useable bedroom. I want to move a double socket a couple of feet to the left so we can fit some wardrobes in so I lifted a floorboard up today to see if it would be easy...
