Hi, before I moved into my house two years ago I noticed black tar like substance on the main electric cable.
Now after about two years I've notice it's oozed out a bit more. Looks to be coming from service head.
I've put everything electrical on in the house, 4 x 1500w heaters and my 2000w...
Hi guys,
I'm shadowing the electrician who is doing our EICR's and after visually inspecting the service cable and service head, I noticed a bit of blue tape dangling on the side of the service head (it's up high and behind a partitioned wall, we access it through a hatch off of steps). I...
I had a look at a property with this old service head. It's a looped supply, the met is just a bolt and the tn-s earth is questionable. There's also a knockout missing on the side. I'll recommend the DNA are contacted to look it over.
I was wondering what the insides are like? If there's a...
Hi,
I am looking to get an electrician to upgrade my consumer unit and do some work on circuits. At the same time, have been receiving letters from E-On about upgrading to smart meters - this was supposed to happen a few years ago but when they visited, they refused to carry out any work...
Hi everyone,
Completed EICR for property recently and found there is a hole in the service head on neutral side, meaning live parts accessible by a finger. Photo attached.
Does anyone knows best way to repair it? I've tried to find replacement element but couldn't find anything.
Many thanks
Hi guys, just turned up at a 3 bed mid terrace,am I right in thinking this is a looped service head? Also,am I right to be concerned about what appears to be a leak from the bottom? The earth clamp onto the incomer is also loose.
I went to a customers house to give a quote for a new consumer unit, and noticed the leak from incoming supplier. I advised the customer to contact her electricity provider who would resolve it, and hopefully upgrade the earth.
Lady emailed me today to say UK power netwroks came and gave it...
What is common practice when hooking Armoured cable to a weather head. Do I need a aluminum weather head or is a threaded PVC one ok? Do I use a weather head with threads so my teck connector can screw straight in.....do I need ground bushings at both ends?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
i have been asked to quote for a new supply to x4 new build flats and a commercial unit below, i am not to keen on supplying remote buildings from a PME and i am really conflicted about how i choose the earthing conductor and bonding conductor sizes so can anyone help.

Well it is a first for me!
Sent one of the lads out this morning to connect a couple of welfare cabins on a site in the centre of the village where our office is , and he phoned up saying that all we have is a live service cable just sitting in the box !?
This is the photo I received
Hi everyone.
I have been asked to relocate a consumer unit from a cupboard outside a house into the inside of the property. The main fuse and meter will be remaining outside however the run is about 6/7 metres long, i believe it states in BS7671 that the meter tails cannot exceed 3m in length...
So I was at a 2 bed flat today, ground floor on 4 storey block. 3 years old flats. The supply head holds a red fuse holder reading " solid link, do not fuse". TN-S and the CU is just off the bottom of this shot below the 100A isolator. ~75 cm tails.
"Fuse" is all crimp sealed, I didn't pull...
Hi first time on here, but a bit of advice needed, We have a complete rewire on a large house , its been a little while since anything has been done here and as you can see its well overdue, our first and main issue is the supply head. The suppliers cut out is rated at 60A and the casing is a...
Hello guys
Just finished an installation for a client and got to the testing and cert phase and thought id check the primary device.

Hello people
ow the joys of domestics and expectations of clients.
The home owner is having the entire ground floor gutted and renovated, the fuse board and service head needs to be taken from the wall that will be removed and relocated 3 meters away.
The TN-CS service had been installed with...
Hello chaps
Normally i would expect to find the service head under the stair or enclosed in a cupboard however on this occasion the service head is located in the living room behind the TV.
I recently carried out an EICR on the house and i highlighted that this needs to be enclosed in boxing...
Hello all,
I've recently put a new circuit in a house and when filling out my EIC, I needed to access the service head (attached).
I'm relatively new to this and I'm struggling here.
In order to access ANY part of this, you have to pull the main fuse and I had to cut a few metal tallys off...
Hi Guys,
i came across an old MEB service head the other day when carrying out a landlord check, I've not come across one of these before and could do with knowing what type of fuse is normally in them please, it's just the BS number for my paperwork.
i have attached a picture
Customer would like service head and meter moved in flat, they contacted SSE who said that they need to get their electrician 'me' to move the rising main, they will then come and move their equipment. Doesn't make any sense to me. I assumed the service head and HRC fuse belong to the DNO but...
