Hello,
Can anyone help me please. I am trying to identify the rating of the cutout in this service head. It has been boxed in and can't tell what it is . Can anyone here tell by just looking at the photos below?
Many thanks for any help.
Chris.
Hi, I'm a trainee electrician and am thinking about upgrading a consumer unit. I'm aware that anything south of the CCU belongs to the electricity supplier and that we're required to call them out to remove the fuse from the service head before starting such a job; but I'm curious about this...
Hello all
I've recently installed a ryefield board and just when I am about to connect itto the service head I find out some one has nicked one of the fuses. I cantidentify it and therefore cant source another one
not allowed to post pictures but its ceramic and 45mm wide and 135mm long. I...
Hello,
Just visited a job where a house is being completely ripped apart and redone. What was the garage is now going to be a bedroom. The service head, meter and consumer unit is there so will now be in a bedroom. Is this allowed?
When on a job where a service head needed to be moved UkPn...
Hello there!
After posting somewhere else to gauge a price for relocating electrics (board with old spinny meter, fuse, then service head) I was informed that cast iron service heads are past their best and through searching this forum that they might be replaced for free?
The current set-up...
Went to quote for customer's dis board upgrade today found this gem! looks like 6mm main earthing, main bonding etc going into the MET within service head.. also no plastic case on head. I presume I would contact DNO to resolve and provide 16mm + additional MET? Just haven't come across this...
o.k. bs 1361 fuses have earth fault loop impedance times as follows
80A-0.40ohms
100A-0.29ohms
(yes based on 80% values, 5 secs distribution)
In a TNS you can goto a max 0.8ohms Ze
so even if you use the smallest rated fuse in your service head, 60A still max only 0.56ohms and your Ze was...
Guys
Short of cutting the seal on the service fuse can you advise what the type is, the head itself is oblong about 150 x 100 with the fuse at the top with the main earth coming out of the side,is it the 88 or the 1361?
Attached is a picture of the service head at our house. Is this a type that the DNO should replace for free upon notification?
It looks very old, and may have a fused neutral line, I can't quite see through the sight glass to see whether this is the case. The conductors going to the meter look...
I don't think I've seen a service head like this before, I've only got the picture to go on at the moment and it's not that clear. I can't see a fuse anyway.
I'm assuming that what I can see in the picture is a cover that either opens or comes off and presumably has, or should have, a seal on...
Can I get the dno to move their equipment as it is too close to the incoming gas supply, presumably the gas supply came in later, but now poses a problem! Or can I get them to change their service head, as where the incoming cable comes in is cast with the fuse inside the metal container, I've...
What to do when you can't see the fuse rating and make on a service head. I'm guesting its 40/60 Amp dark brown flat type with no writing app from manufacture brand.
Hi all I completed my first EICR a couple of days ago and some of you have helped with the codes, a major concern I had was the age and condition of the service supply head. As you can see from the photos the wiring looks 30+years old with a tangle of wires going everywhere.
Do I call out SSE to...
I have a mate who wants to construct a shower room downstars in his house. The service head and CU are high level and will be in the same room, he wants to move the CU so it will be outside the room and build a cupboard around the incomer and service head and fuse. I guess he cant build a...
I want to upgrade the main protective bonding conductors on the gas/water from 6.0mm to 10mm.
Its a bit frustrating when the original bonding condutors along with the main earthing conductor are all conected into an earthing terminal, which is in the side of the main service head....which means...
As a maintenance electrician i've been given jobs to replace stolen earth bonding from intake cupboards in various blocks of flats. Some are PME and some are TNS. Obviously for PME i can provide earth to the Neutral via the bolt on the side of the service head, but on the TNS where the earth...
Can two units with two seperate service heads be fed from one service head?.............................................The job I have started today is two seperate units getting knocked through via a corridor. To keep it simple, on drawing each units power is to be fed from their direct service...
Just been to look at a rewire job, yeah on a sunday evening and come across an old calender service head. No signs of asbestos but are these still acceptable ?
Nice access to live parts after removing one little screw.
Side of which is a old helney isolator and metal clad henley board, tails are...
Hi Guys & Gals,
Does any one know how long it takes the DNO, in my case YEDL, to come out and fit a new service head?
I am supposed to be fitting a new cu for a customer and I needed to get an isolation switch put in. I called the DNO and they put me through to the apropriate company. They...
Not sure if this will interest anyone, but thought I'd post it up anyway. Finally on the 2nd callout in a year for bitumen leaking from my service head Southern Electric popped round this morning to change it out. Actually to be fair Southern Electric (and the lads who did it) were really good...
