I have 2 roofs, SE and SW, 8 and 6 panels respectively. I also have a SB3600 TL dual inverter.
On my roof with the 8 panels my chimney casts a shadow on approx 1/5th of one panel until about 11am (in the winter). They are wired 1x8 and I queried whether it would be better to go 2 x 4 so as to...
Turned up on this instal to put in inverters and found this abortion.
As you can see i have a little bit of a shading problem (11am) to say the least LOL
I have a 150 of these and they are all the same. 10 rows of 15.
Can someone tell me the ramifications as to the by-pass diodes with this...
East west split 90 degree azimuth 2 strings of 8 suntech STP240S-20Wd, SB4000TL-20, Roof pitch is 22.5 degrees.
Afaik the only shading is on the east side is a soil pipe that casts a shadow across 1 panel as the sun rises but im pretty sure it soon goes as the sun comes up.
Over the last two...
Would you know the advised distance between solar frames on a ground mount system
Ie one system directly behind another?
The back of the first system is 1900mm affl and the next system behind this should be 9000mm away to clear sunlight at 12 degrees in decemeber (its in scotchland!)
But that...
There's been a couple of interesting threads recently on shading so I thought I'd ask you pros about this I've seen. I know very little on the subject, so it's purely academic interest only.
This is an install that's just gone up near me recently.
The panels are facing just about due East...
Here is an interesting one re shading.
A 30KWP system that we were installing went live today, sun was shinning evenly across the barn roof.
The system is split into eight strings, then 4 strings to each inverter.
The whole system had rigorous testing before "switch on" and all tested perfect...
There have been plenty of topics on the subject of shading - here's another one ... from my perspective

I have just had a good quote for 17 Sanyo HIT-N235SE10 panels and a Sunny Boy 4000TL Inverter but hear good things about the Solar Edge Inverter and was wondering if I should pay £550 extra for the Solar Edge.
I have no shading and directly South facing so is the Solar Edge not worth the extra...
Hi
I have agreed a PV installation on my South facing roof with a local installer. They listened to my requirements (I have limited roof space) and designed a system I was very happy with. The pertinent facts are:
South facing roof approx 8.3m wide with 2.90m usable space from bottom of the...
I am looking to have a 4kW system installed in two row.
Top row should be completely shade free, bottom row is split five and three panels with a chimeny inbetween which will have shading over parts of the five panels in the AM and over parts of the three panels in the PM.
I have been quotes for...
Hello.
I'd appreciate your thoughts on my planned installation as I've received opinions from various installers which range from, literally, "No, your system is not viable." to "That's a shading factor of 1 - ie: little to no effect..."
My array will likely consist of 2 rows of 7 panels in...
Hi everyone.
I've been MCS accredited for a couple of months now and have a few jobs done. My latest quote is for a system on an east facing roof (photo attached). The customer request is for the largest system possible. I am tying myself up with shading issues during the winter months from the...
Hi All,
New to the forum so hi everyone :)
Can I ask what you all using for your solar horizon measurements?
This seems to take an age with a compass and an inclo.
Have read about SolEye etc. just wondering what peoples experiences where and what was the easiest to use in the field.
Thanks...
We are having an issue with an installation that we have carried out and we believe the issue may be with the modules.
Installed on a fantastic aspect we have 16 number Sharp NU245 modules and a Diehl 4300S inverter. We did have a 3800S but changed it when the supplier suggested that the...
My place has a WSW aspect and am in the East of Scotland, just north of Edinburgh. So not ideally placed. However I am still game to have a system installed. I have had 5 quotes from different companies and the best comes in at about £11500 for a 15x Sharp MU250 which will give, according to my...
I'm interested in fitting a PV solar system. But I have some shading in the morning.
The roof at 09:00
The roof at 10:00
The roof is unshaded from 11:00 onwards. Pitch is 40 degrees, azimuth is -10 (170 degrees on the compass). The shade is from a neighbour's horse chestnut tree with a TPO...
Hello,
Any one know how SANYO panels perform under shading. If I have 6 Sanyo 250s in a string and one panel becomes partially shaded how would that affect the rest of the string. Is there a particular panel that performs well under partial shading.
Thanks for your help.
We're busy collecting quotes at the moment, we've got an awkward install in that we have very little space on the roof for PV, and slight shading issues, I'm trying to understand the pros and cons of what we might be able to achieve.
At the moment it's looking like we can fit no more than 5...
