I'm trying to replace old 3 gang light switch to new smart light switch.
It's single pole with one breaker (switch board).
Smart switch requires 4 wires (black, red, green and white)
but my old switch only have 3 wires (black, black and green)
I connected black(top) to red(line) and...
Hi guys. Sorry for the sad post but I thought this was a simple plug and play...
So I have two light switches in my basement living room controlling one light fixture each independently. They are pot lights and too bright so I decided to buy replacement dimmers for both.
Again each switch is...
I tried to put in a smart switch, which should be simple enough but when I took the plate off I was surprised at what I saw.
There are two lights controlled by the switch, but still single pole switch. The feed wire is three way with one hot going to one light and the other hot going to the...
I have two cables for wall lamps (1mm T+E) going to one of the socket in the back of the TV. These lamps will be controlled with smart bulbs with a little remote control or/and an app on the phone, no need of wall switch.
I'm considering to use the 47mm double metal box to host a modular single...
I'm looking to install lighting in my garden, part of the requirement is that the circuit is hooked up to a photocell so that by default they will illuminate at night. As our bedroom window may suffer glare there will be occasions when I want to manually override the photosell and turn the...
Hi folks, can anyone advise re the above. All I info I have is the the board is about 10 years old. I can only find flea bay options for Moellerr. Does anyone know what, if any, alternative single phase c type rcbos are compatible?
The site is 40 miles away so ideally want to attend with...
Hello,
Newcomer to the forum, so hello all.
Just to clarify, although I understand most of my way around the regs and workings, still get an approved guy to to any work......just thought I'd get that out of the way!
Anyhow, I have an old property that fed by good old overhead Live/Neutral so...

Hello Forum,
I am doing some testing on a ceiling rose. I am using a ‘Fluke T50’ tester. When the circuit is live the arrowed L.E.D. lights up, buzzes and the voltage is displayed. When the circuit is isolated at the consumer unit, i.e. m.c.b. turned off and I touch the red (+) probe to the...
Hello Forum, when the circuit is live the arrowed L.E.D. lights up, buzzes and the voltage is displayed. When the circuit is isolated at the consumer unit, i.e. m.c.b. turned off and I touch the red (+) probe to the line conductor the arrowed L.E.D. lights up and buzzes. Why does it do this and...
Have seen two types of double gang socket outlets, single pole and double pole. Not sure what the difference is. My guess is one is for use on a spur and one for a ring final but would like a definitive answer. Thx
Hi guys! i have a college assignment for my C&G college 1st year apprentice program and have been asked to draw up a plan of a 2 way lighting circuit from a dist board to a ceiling rose(looped ceiling rose for option of additional feeds) then linked to two single pole switches using 3core and...
Hi all, I'm new to this forum and the trade so please be gentle!
I've recently rewired a kitchen with 7 appliances on one ring circuit and each appliance has a switched fused spur to isolate the related socket.
I'm only switching the live in each spur, so the neon on each spur is not lighting...
Why do they have the same bs en number? Allways fround this odd, and surely if they where unique to each other it would save the confusions on test sheets with 3 phase feeds.
Apologies if this seems silly but can anyone enlighten me as to the meaning of this function? Does it simply light and buzz when one of the cables you are testing has a link to >100v (even though the circuit being tested is dead)? I find this buzzing when I'm attempting to establish continuity...
Hi All
Why must single pole devices be fitted in the phase conductor? I understand that polarity must be assured through out the circuit but is it a bit more in depth than this?
Thanks.
i have come cross this word a lot, like 'single pole switch', but i dont think i have understood it clearly. i assume ' single pole' means one line of live or neutral, but still not sure, can anyone give me a good explaination?
cheers
