Hi guys.
I was on EICR yesterday, where i found that the main earthing conductor is with very small csa- no more than 2.5cm2.
Also they run the wire directly behind the CU, where it is twisted with 10mm2 and continues to the MET inside the board.
Ze at the board is 0.28 ohms and seems to be ok...
I have a question. I am installing a steam generator. The unit draws 42 amps. I have a two pole 50 amp breaker at the service box per the instruction manual. Used 6 awg. The unit needs a fused disconnect at the generator. I have a two fuse 60 amp disconnect requiring two fuses. My question is...
Hi, I'm a first year apprentice... just trying to get an edge on theory.
Calculating breaker size:
W ÷ V = A
So say appliance needs 4000 watts
4000w ÷ 230v = 17.39amps
Then, from research I seen a rule that the breaker shouldn't be running above 80% of it specific ampacity, so you multiply...
Hi,
The current carrying capacity tables in the BS 7671 for twin and earth cables are only for buildings that have thermal insulation. I'm working on a commercial building, the inner walls do not have thermal insulation, what can i use for the current carrying capacity of the cables. The...
I thought I had an understanding of how to size an inverter but I think I have become slightly confused after taking to some proposed installers. I am looking at a 15 panel solar array with a proposed output of 6150KWH and was thinking of having two 6.5KWH batteries that would have their charge...
I am looking to add an 80 amp sub panel for my detached wood shop. The smallest sub panel I can find has a 100 amp main breaker in the panel.
Would it be ok to use this panel, and just connect to an 80 amp breaker in the main panel?
Thank you!
Don't come across this very often - but I've had a CU delivered for a caravan job (not static btw), and it's been supplied with a neutral conductor from the main switch to the neutral bar! Definitely an oversight, but I've got plenty of singles cable in stock, so rather than send it back, I...
This is a question (or discussion probably) regarding selecting the main earthing conductor, and subsequently the main equipotential bonding conductor sizes in a TNCS installation. We are fitting a replacement consumer unit only.
The property currently has 4mm bonding cable installed to gas and...
Hi all.
Could I ask some advice please regarding SWA banjo fly lead sizing.
Can anyone explain what sizing or how you size the required earth size when:
A) The armourings are not used as cpc
B) When armourings are used as CPC?
I’m still learning and can’t find anything explain I guess this...
Hi all,
I’ve been given 3 flats to re wire and i was looking for advice on the correct size Swa to use.
There will be 3 meters installed by the DNO, 1 for each flat. My plan was to have switch fuses after the metres and then run Swa to the DB’s. The longest run for the furthest DB is around 20...
In a few days our local HVAC company will replace our propane furnace with a Mitsubishi heat pump (PUZ-HA42NKA1) and ducted air handler ((PVA-A42AA7) with a 15kW backup electric unit (EH15-MPAS-LB). Submittals and installation instructions can be found on mylinkdrive.com. I'm doing the...
Another hob wiring question sorry,
I am replacing my oven and hob and the oven connections was fine, 6mm from new consumer unit on a 32a RCBO split to oven and hob.
the new hob is 6.2kw, old hob is 6kw the new one will not take the 6mm cable that was connected to the previous hob and the...
Hi there
I am looking to run a supply cable to a house in rural Italy, however, it's quite a distance from the pole to the property.
The distance is 1km, the supply is 230v, single phase, usage will be average... 8kwh?
My question is what size cable would I need? Would they need to be...
In my flat the main earth is the cable pictured below it has 7 strands any idea what size this is?
And if it would need to be upgraded for a cu change
The bonding is in 6mm but is easy to change to 10mm but I guess that's irelavent if the earth is 6mm?
The conduit system the 16mm tails come...
Hello, I’m building a wood shop. I’m planning on installing 240 and 120 outlets. I plan to connect to my supply panel using a 90 amp breaker. They’re run to the shop is 140 feet. I will use 2” underground conduit. I’m just not sure what size and what rated copper conductors to use. I used...
Browsing to buy a new electric oven. I came across a Hotpoint with a rating of 10.7 kWh. I calculated that would need a 16mm cable! Surely not? I multiplied by 1.25 as when it's on its a continuous draw. Thoughts?
A relative in West Cheshire sent me this pic. He is contemplating having an EV charger and other electrical appliances fitted. He asked me if he has a 60A or 100A supply. From this pic, it looks like a 100A supply with 60A fuse fitted for some reason. He wants it to be 100A. Any ideas?
