Domestic single phase supply, TNCS, 25mm tails.
From supply to Fused switched isolator : Earthing conductor is 16mm.
From isolator to CU : Earthing conductor downgraded to 6mm for what ever reason I don't know.
Is there something in the regs that says after an isolator the conductor can be...
Hi forum,
I’m planning some garden lighting and would like to try an minimise the amount of cable I’m using. I have a number of different lights/circuits in one area of the garden so was planning to run a multi core cable to a convenient place then make connections from there. All the lights...
Hi there,
If I’ve got a SWA, what size should my fly lead cable be from banjo to earth bar ? The wire armouring is only being used for mechanical protection and not by means of supplying a earth.
If I am using the SWA as means of a earth connection how do I size the fly lead then?
What size washer would you all presume this is? It’s 20a radial fused down to 6 amps but I’m unsure of dryer size as can’t find details as confused between 7.4 kW and the 3.7A
Thanks guys

Hello, I have a 100 amp sub-panel in my garage that I would like to put a 60 or 70 amp breaker in and run that out to my shed about 175 feet away to another panel. My limited electrical understanding leads me to think that going such a long distance might cause excess heat from resistance...
I’m intrigued by cable size calculations for my garden. The distance from my consumer unit at the front of the house to the garden is 14m (20m cable route). Garden is 34m long to the front of a shed. There will be other sockets, lighting, irrigation control used in the garden as well. I am...
Hi, so I’m shopping for a home standby generator. I know the real answer is to get the actual data plate information however i just want to know without doing all of that what to believe. Last year when the power went out for a couple of days I hardwired a 6000kw running watt generator to my...
I’m still an apprentice electrician so the whole thing around diversity is still a bit confusing to me
A family member has moved into a new flat. The existing cooker circuit is 6mm on a 32A MCB. She has bought a cooker which pulls 9.6Kw.
I know you do 9600/230 = 41.7
This is telling me that...
DIY homeowner here. I need advice, but will hire a pro if major rewiring needs to be done.
I purchased a home with a 200amp service. There is a detached garage about 15’ from the house. I dont think the subpanel in the garage was wired correctly.
There are currently three 4awg aluminum branch...
Hi all,
I bought a baby monitor which came with a 2 pin power adapter so I would need to buy a 3 pin adapter but unsure of which size fuse I would need to use.
Can someone look at the picture attached to help me determine what amp size my fuse should be. Can someone also tell me how I go...
I have had a good search for this information but can't find it anywhere not even in my on site guide 17th edition.
So imagine you have a CU with 10 MCBs but no RCDs. You decide you want to install an RCD.
You do your max load and diversity calculations for each MCB circuit and you come out...
Hi guys
I was doing a kitchen recently and behind the cooker hood I had ran 2.5mm from a FCU, the hood can with 1.5mm flex. I had put a plug top with a 3amp fuse onto the flex and then a single socket for the 2.5. That way you just plug it in.
The kitchen fitter got all assy and said that his...
Hi, looking for some advice on this, 3 phase board 25 SWA incoming feed from 60A BS88 fuses, looks like someone’s replaced the 100A main switch with a 125A 4 pole RCD is there anything wrong with that? I know 25 SWA can’t take 125A and overcurrent is 60A fuses, I never understood why haha
Thanks
Hi all,
I have just been to a job where the existing hob is wired in using 2.5mm heat resistant cable, the hob is rated at 6000w. I calculate this to need a 4mm cable, however, was challenged by someone, in the end I called NICEIC who stayed neutral and said it "might be ok, what do the...

Hi guys, hopefully somebody can help. I have some driveway lamp posts with the armoured cable installed though the middle of the concrete pad. Unfortunately whoever installed this did a rubbish job as the concrete is not level and the posts look awful. I was going to cut the cable and dig out...
