ive been lookin at a job and cant decide if this is ok or not, someone else has already put wiring in and i was just looking at something else at the time, but it got me thinking! its a solid floor so no access below and dressed stone with vaulted ceiling above so it looked like it would be...
Hi peeps, I have been landed a job to move a double socket up by 30cm as the existing surface mounted socket is in the way of the new skirting board.
What are my options?
- Use 30amp terminal block? I will find quite hard to bury the block and the skirting board will be covering it therefore...
House built about 1974, wiring OK. But all are sockets on a shallow skirting so need to raise them all to about 450mm plus new skirting. Option 1 - pull wiring down below flooring and extend each wire to new sockets above skirting using 2 Ashley J803's thus maintaining ring. Option 2 - pull...
I have a customer that wants commercial style skirting trunking to be installed as they do not want cables wired through the floor and sockets placed in the trunking about 1oomm of the floor.
1.the socket is too low
2.Has anyone installed the above if so what type.
3.I will also run...
On a visit to price a consumer unit change, plus other small jobs around the house. All of the sockets in the house, apart from the kitchen. are actually all about 10mm above the carpet, when plugs were put into these sockets they had to pull the flex to the side of the plug. The customer...
Hi,
I've been looking at ways of routing cable around a room perimeter behind a skirting. I know that the skirting is not a safe zone so therefore 522.6.101 comes into play requiring mechanical protection of some kind.
How therefore does pvc skirting trunking comply? Could I hide the trunking...
Did an EICR today, generally ok, but found a FCU on the skirting board outside the bathroom that feeds a flex outlet on the skirting board in the bathroom directly behind, for a heated towel rail. The main issue was that the FCU was screwed onto the skirting board using drywall screws and there...
Doing a re-wire for a customer who doesn't want surface mini trunking, can't channel walls and wants me to use 50 year old conduit to re-wire.It was originally wired as a radial circuit and don't think I'd get 2x2.5 mm T & E's down the conduit.Assuming the kitchen can be done seperately, could I...
Any of you guys got any good ideas for mounting D/G 13amp socket outlets in metal skirting trunking? the site I am on has metal skirting trunking which has small sections with pre-cut holes for the mounting of faceplates - trouble is the trunking is so old and no identification markings to...
Hi all,
just wandering what the view is on running a 2.5mm radial circuit behind a skirting board when it's fully protected by a new 17th ed. RCD protected CU.
thanks in advance

Hi Guys,
Just new to this forum and wondering what the rule is with regard to the socket height in old houses. The sockets in question are fixed to the skirting board, (It's an old old house so the skirting boards are bigger than normal), the house was rewired about 30 years ago but the lad who...
I've been asked to do a periodic inspection on a property I have come across all the socket outlets flush in the skirting board. Can someone shed some light on this If this is acceptable on a periodic or do i recommend to raise them all up. Thanks in advance.
I need to take a spur to feed a security light, and one option is to spur off a socket in skirting trunking (office environment). I'm thinking I'll try to avoid this as the cable will somehow need to pass through one of the data compartments. I've seen a few ideas around to run mini-trunking...
Hi
A good friend of mine has recently had someone round to test their electrical wiring to obtain a certificate for their insurance as its a thatched cottage.
One of the items on the list was compulsory and was to move all the sockets on the skirting boards up to the walls.
Is this correct? The...
My last job of the day today and I put a clip in to what I thought was the top of a skirting board. WRONG!
The hissing noise and the smell of gas convinced me otherwise!!!
Hi again,
I know that the regs say that sockets need to be a minimum of 450mm from the floor, but if you are adding a socket to an exsisting room does it still have to be that minimum height as it would obviously look out of place with the others.
Can anyone help please.
Last night one of my neighbours asked me to look at a fault which had developed after new skirting boards were fitted!
Today I went round, isolated the circuit and the IR test from the board confimed a L-E very low IR, not too much of a surprise as the RCD wouldn't hold if anything was switched...
Hi,
I went to carry out a fault find on some heated electrical skirting boards today. It's a new build block. There's a room stat on the wall, and in the ceiling there is a fan system, linked to the buildings vents/air con system. With the fans running, the voltage going to the heated skirting...
Hi can anyone tell me if this pvc skirting with built in trunking like shown here 50mm x 170mm Skirting Trunking - (3mts) is acceptable to the 17th regs
i.e permitted zones etc, for use in a domestic kitchen along the length of one wall(at skirting level with no accessories) and then feeding a...
