Hi all,
I have a bit of a strange requirement for a client of mine - they have a pump room for their pool circulation equipment and the main pump is on all the time. this pump has a 'built in' thermo-cutout and in the event of a fault with the pump causing overheating it 'should' automatically...

Hi,
I am planning a house renovation and need to improve the fire alarms in the house to comply with Building Control:
- heat detector in the kitchen and linked smoke alarms throughout the house.
- Install a mist system on the ground floor risk area.
I would be grateful if you could recommend...

PIV (positive input ventilation) unit sited in attic space and ducted through ceiling in hallway. Smoke alarm sited within ceiling area. I am aware of manufactures instructions for distances for the unit being installed with their standard grill, however if you were to install such a unit with a...
Hi I have recently been to look at my friends newly built extension. The guy asked me about the fire alarms and how I would go about doing them as he wasn't sure . I advised that the way to meet regulation would be to take the existing Battery powered alarms down, and hard wire from an RCBO in...

Hi everyone. Would be great to get some advice here if possible.
My home has (had!) three Aico Ei141 model smoke alarms, wired.
I decided to switch one of them out for a Nest Protect smoke detector which I did today. I switched off the power to switch to the Nest Protect (which meant all three...

So i've spent most of today with my head in my hands whilst attempting course work. Long story short i stumbled across section B1.19 of the Building Regulations which states:

kitchen, it is a 1920s small 1 bedroom flat and has
never had a heat alarm in the kitchen only the

Hi,
do you have some experience with fire/smoke alarms that would have an option for part of install to be linked up with cable, and part by radio bases?
like that-
alarm----cable----alarm----cable-----wireless alarm (radio link) wireless alarm (radio link) wireless alarm...
Hi everyone
I've been asked to rewire a big period house and the owner has stipulated absolutely no smoke alarms!
I have argued the case for them and was unsure if these are a legal requirement or could these be left out of the installation on his say so.
Can anyone shed some light ?

I will be installing several smoke - heat and carbon monoxide detectors shortly as per spec. I've not done carbon monoxide detectors before. I take it, electrically wiring them is the same as smoke and heat detectors. They will be wired and interconnected on one circuit and protected by a RCBO...

Just seeing what others policy on breaks ( & smoke breaks) are.
I'm a non-smoker so would be good to have feedback from both smokers & non-smokers.
I presently work alongside both my apprentices who both smoke and need their fix as often as they can.
The way we have it at the...
I'm going back into the educational system for Fire Alarms. Over these passed 3 years I've found myself installing more and more of them for other companies, just pulling in cables and terminating them, not designing or commissioning/testing them.
It is a section of our industry that I am very...
Hi,
Our house has three of these alarms, interlinked so if one goes off then it sets the others off a couple of seconds later.
For reasons I needn't go into I had one of them disconnected last night by removing the main unit from the base plate, and removing its battery. Also the lighting...
