Hi all,
Went to a house on friday due to sub-main to shed not energising. This was simply due to the MCB playing up. I flicked it on and off a few times and it works fine now.
However im not happy with the way the submain has been installed poorly.
The sub-main is in the form of a 3 core SWA...

Hi guys/girls
Just some clarification needed. I have an house where there is sub board in the garage , and also a boiler in the garage. The water copper pipe that connects to the boiler is continuous from the house. I am aware of the exporting PME situation so plan to drop out the 3rd core of...
Hi there can I describe an installation and I would love to hear some opinions as to weather the earthing is up to standard. Its quite a long run so I'm concerned about the difference between true earth and system earth!
Submain comes direct from meter cupboard in farmhouse through 100a main...
just had a customer in the phone saying that an engineer refused to work on her broken dishwasher because of a failed earth loop test and no rcd being present
The setup is as follows
Tt supply
From the House consumer unit a 10mm twin and earth runs through the house buried in the wall...
Situation DNO supply into garage outside meter box, submain into house approx 10M in concentric cable. Fused down by 80 swfcu . I dont know the size but it has 7 neutral strands and approx same cpc strands. Any thoughts on this.? Is it ok? I would have thought ok as same if not very similar to...
Hi everyone, apologies in advance, it's been a long day and I've not even had my lunch yet, so I'll try and keep this quick!
Running a supply to a wooden summer house, coming from existing CU on a 20A MCB with 30mA RCD as the main switch. It's going to run in 4mm 3-core SWA buried under a...
EICR.. 80 switch fuse in meter cupbord, 16mm t&e to cu with 6mm cpc chopped both ends and 16mm earth ran along side submain.
zdb/pefc/pscc fine.
bonding from db fine.
i would never do this but struggling to find a reg number aggainst it :/

OK, going to keep this short.
Supply is 150mm 4 core SWA, with NO supplymentary earth ( calcs done by others, )
QUESTION IS. Do you NEED to run an earth ( is it a regulation) from banjo on inside to earthing terminal inside board. Common sense and a simple ohms continuity test (0.01 ohms)...
New TT supply on unbuilt barn conversion with 8ft of 5/8 rod & reading of 48ohm with current swamp conditions.
next phase is large all wood storage shed with power & lighting fed in 10.0mm 3core ,swa plan is drive another rod & link both or is it possible to export TT earth?
Hi I've been pulled today for installing an swa glancing into the top of a header trunking then taking it through the db, saying its against the regs saying a once a main sw is off the whole db has to be dead, I can't find a reference to it,
normally I would always gland it in the bottom of the...
Hi All,
Having a little discussion with my old man over a job. The job is a domestic property, the CU is around 7 metres in cable length from the meter. There is a switch fuse around 4m from the meter, in a cellar. However, the tails are run very shoddily in an old bit of water pipe and then...
Hi all

Hello all!
I am working in a property with 3 old rewirable fuseboards, each fed from mcb's in a modern consumer unit at the incoming supply.
We want to change the 3 fuseboards to 17th ed RCD etc. However, as the 16mm T+E is less than 50mm in the wall I wonder whether I should protect each...
Feeding two outbuildings by overhead cable from TNCSsupply. Building one, steel framed barn, earth floor etc. Building two, stableblock, concrete floor/block walls and steel roof frames. Approx 20 and 30m respectively from supply.
For all obvious reasons going to TT each building and...
An outbuilding is fed from a separate single way board in the house and has a 2c 4mm SWA to the building of 7m. Its a TNS. This outbuilding has its own water main (albeit in plastic) which comes directly from the water meter not through the house. Testing between copper pipes below the sink and...
Morning all,
I’ve had a ‘discussion’ with my local NIC rep about a particular scenario that I’d like others advice on please.
Property is TNS. There are two boards, one which does the house and a single switch fuse (BS1361) which feeds a 4mm SWA to garage/workshop. There are main protective...
