I'm going to be running a small circuit this week to power so heftyish servers, all surface, 32A, not decided until I look at the job if ring or 4mm Radial with extra CPC, now I am concerned about putting these on an RCBO as they can be leaky, so am considering using the 'Skilled or instructed...
Hi
I am after some information or any tips you have.
How do you repair tge plasterboard if you have to cut holes for running cables or to get your angle drill in ect...
I.e when putting in spotlights
Hope you can help!
Sorry if this is a bit of a noob question but what do you use to cut holes in surface mounted backboxes. They seem to only be designed to take cables that are concealed in the wall, but if you have them coming in from trunking you need to cut a hole in the bottom.. what is the best way of doing...
Hi
Just looked at a job in a 90 year old building - the customer wants a number of additional sockets, the only existing socket is surface mounted with the T&E chased into the wall. The room full of bookshelves all walls from the floor to the ceiling. I explained that to chase the walls etc...
I'm fitting a 100mA RCD to a TT system (domestic) to comply with the regs. Is it acceptable to fit a 100mA RCD as a main switch in a CU?
The original set-up was a stand alone mini CU with a 100mA RCD which in turn fed the main CU. The problem being maintaining the IP4X top surface rating on the...
Good info, also as I am just used to surface laying this whole chase cutting is a bit of a new experience, now the chases has capping in it and has to be deep enough to accommodate it, the metal back boxes are 35mm deep so sometimes do you have to chase into the brickwork itself as sometimes you...
Hi all
I have an install in the next few days on an oak shingle roof. Technically they are shakes - i.e. they are split oak rather than sawn, various widths, with a three ply overlap. They are laid on 25x50 battens nailed to SIP panels. The SIP panel is a bonded 18mm OSB/100mm insulation/18mm...
Hi
A good friend of mine has recently had someone round to test their electrical wiring to obtain a certificate for their insurance as its a thatched cottage.
One of the items on the list was compulsory and was to move all the sockets on the skirting boards up to the walls.
Is this correct? The...
Just pondering cost of FiT/PV install -v- cost of 200 miles of new Grid to connect +50kWh wind farms etc. to existing Grid network.
Base assumption surface [pylon etc.] £1.8million to £8 million per km. Sub-surface £18 million to £22 million.
Exact details not known but assume 90% pylon at...
This is for my own flat. I know I can get 25mm surface mount patresses. Are there any deeper surface patresses so I can do this:
It’s for my computers and sound system.
I want to flush about 3 or 4 sockets into the wall...existing cables are long enough thankfully.(sockets are currently surface mounted)
Do i need to make sure the circuit is rcd protected as i have an old wylex with push in breakers?
This is'nt classed as an addition or alteration????
I'm looking for some lights for a kitchen ceiling, as it's exposed beams there is only 50mm air space clearance above the plasterboard which is fitted between the ceiling joists so not enough for a GU10 to fit. I'm looking for some very shallow downlights which will take LED lamps (no heat)...
Does a external flood light need to be on an RCD,
i was going to spur off a socket in the bedroom, if the fuse board doesnt have any rcd, should an rcd fuse spur be used? or can a normal switch spur be used?
Thanks,
After returning from Greece after a two week break I found my Kitchen RCBO had tripped.:icon9:
However as I had the forsight to provide a dedicated circuit for the freezer all is well.:)
Why dont folk heed the advice and do this when having a rewire as a matter of course?
Anyone know where or who stock surface patresses for use with pvc conduit, that have rounded corners?Have some grid switches to install and the face plates have the rounded edges, so don't want to use the standard square edge boxes to mount them as imo looks dog rough.
Hi, I am adding a new lighting circuit to a house which i'm to use in my domestic installers assessment and wanted to know besides the new circuit being up to BS 7671 standard, what else if anything will need to be upgraded. It is a TT installation. Thanks
Are there any bathroom fans out there which you can cable to using mini trunking. Got called to a job to put an exractor into a new bathroom. And the extractor had been missed and is required to be signed off buy building control. Also is there any stipulation on if its a timer fan or just...
