I am considering fitting a car charger using 6mm SWA to a new isolator switch in the meter cupboard and then 6mm T&E to the CU. It would save running the SWA all the way to the CU. Does anyone else do this and if so, which isolator is best for SWA? Thanks
Hi guys. I have an old out building that has been knocked down and in it’s place an extension is being built. The old out building had a ring and a lighting circuit with water heater for a shower all fed From a ccu that came from the main house through 10mm swa. The extension is now going to be...
A couple of questions for you.
The electrician that rewired our house ran a 10mm2 SWA to our outbuilding. The total length of the cable is about 45m. It is in ducting underground at a depth of approximately 1.2m.
Now, my understanding is that the max load for 10mm2 underground over 45m would...
I’m putting a new DB in the in-laws cabin. It will be supplied from the garage DB (which was installed with the extra provision for the cabin).
Father in law doesn’t want the supply cable (SWA) in the air or on the ground. My solution was to run the SWA in galv conduit in a chase in the concrete...
In a former life on another forum as well as this one.... there were a whole heap of downloads that people had done as ready-reckoners for things like Cu eq for various armour sizes, R1R2 values on lengths.. useful stuff. I think I might even have generated some myself.
Anyone have any...
Hi there.
I want power in my garage which is NOT attached to my house, its around 20-25 meters from the main house consumer unit to the garage.
There is conduit installed underground going from the House consumer unit, to the garage.
Also in my main Consumer unit I have a 32amp spare breaker for...
do they do anything on the market for small SWA cabling yet?, only seen the strandard pvc cleats
seen a few jobs where people have used 20mm black enamel conduit saddles instead lol!
Having been reading a thread recently about private lamp post installations, I've been look at my place of work's lamp posts.
We are considering making some alterations to the existing installation, so I went looking for some manufacturers product details. I took off a post cover, and...
Hi everyone,
I have a 2 core 10mm2 SWA from a DB to a consumer unit to be joint. I know seems a silly question but how can I joint the steel of the SWA?
Thank you
Just wondering if others make off their armoured glands at both ends has have worked with sparks previously and seem to have different takes on it. My thoughts are that if glanded and so earthed at origin is acceptable so if for example supplying a sub board in garage a plastic gland at the...
Hi, first post here, I'm not sure where to get advice about this, am looking to get an idea what my next steps should be, if any required.
I moved into a new build last May. Have only just noticed that the mains SWA cable that comes into our cupboard under the stairs has two slices in it that...
I’m having a new wall constructed. Whilst digging the foundations the workers came across the incoming main. Note that the steel armour is entirely exposed. U.K. power came to confirm it was their cable but didn’t mention anything relating to the cables condition. Surely this is a ticking time...
Hi,
So i’ve recently put a 100m length of SWA 2-core 2.5 to the other end of a field with a 16a commando socket at the bottom. It’s for a shepard hut to go down the bottom to be plugged in and out.
The breaker it goes to inside the house where I’ve wired it in is a B16, onto the RCD that is...
Hello
I need to extend 13 5 core 6mm non swa cables, the joint's will be outside - above ground with no weather or sun protection.
Any advice on the best product to use for this task would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
How would one terminate SWA into a Hager consumer unit given all of the knockouts are rectangular? They don't appear to make any form of gland. Feels like a crap finish to just leave it hanging in the back?
I'm looking at adding an electric lock to our driveway gates
The lock runs on 12v from a lock control module and I can pull an additional length of 1.5mm SWA through the underground conduit from the garage and terminate it into an IP65+ Wiska box using a 20S storm gland - that's all pretty...
Hi
Is there any advantage to using SWA cable for a distribution circuit to a DB, instead of eg. using singles in trunking? Let's say the sub board is in the same building as the main board.
It's just whenever I see descriptions of distribution circuits, they seem always to be in SWA (even if...
So I have a job of installing an old cast iron lampost which will need to be buried into the ground about 600mm deep due to its weight. I am planning on drilling a hole at an angle from the patio area (next to the hole) into the hole to pass the 1.5mm swa into. Once the cable is in, I’m planning...
Hi, Need some advice with 3 questions (Diagram below)
I am having a new 'Outbuilding' for storage which will be attached to the side of the house, replacing an existing 'Lean-To' and I need to decide on MDPE pipe for cables before the concrete is poured
It will be insulated Timber frame on a...
