I'm all set to fit my 8 downlights at the customers house. I texted the builder the night before to make sure he wouldn't be in the way, he's already said he wouldn't but I wanted to double check. No reply so I assume all is well.
I get to the job and he's plastering right were I need to work...
Bought this pack this afternoon - thought it might get me out of a hole at some point seeing as so many houses are dry lined these days ........
Anyone used these?
Thanks
I was called out to a fault today where the newly fitted consumer units RCD was tripping when the cooker was switched on.The cooker had been checked by an appliance engineer and deemed to be fully working with no faults.
So I turned up to be presented with a nice new shiny MK metal clad dual RCD...
I hope it's ok to ask, I just want to make sure I don't get the same electrician who wired the house to fix this if this doesn't look right.
We have a 3 gang and a 2 gang dimmer switch, on which the buttons are knackered on both. I thought I'd have a go at replacing them myself, but was not...
Lazing in the garden and decided to ask this after wondering why..
Why is it that you cannot buy 30mm socket screws or 1mm H05RN cable easily?
Most wholesalers sell 35mm, 40mm and 50mm socket screws. They also sell H07RN or 0.75mm H05RN.
Most sockets come with 30mm screws in a packet with...
been doing some poking about on the 18th and came across something about AFFDs is this gonna be something else that we are going to have to sell to our customers when all they want to do is add a couple of sockets to an existing RFC? Like the inevitable I want 4 new sockets, no problem but as...
The customer had an RCD tripping problem. I found it to be with the fountain lights. They are small tube lights (G4) that are actually submerged into the water (see picture). They are attached to a piece of flex.
I need to replace the lights with something similar. It doesn't have to be...
Hi all,
If anyone could identify these downlights I'd be grateful. Obviously they look like a fire rated, integrated LED fitting, just not a brand I'd usually use. Customer would like some more in a house he's just bought.
Many thanks
Been working in a old property. Wiring is getting on a bit but one of the breakers has failed. Not a major problem as the lights are split between numerous circuits and i can take an old one out of the now redundant and unused eco7 board that used to power the old lights in laundry/maids room...
So this happened today:-
My daughter texts me from school asking if its ok to put a 100W bulb (her word, not mine) when it says 60W Max?
I replied no, it'll be too hot. Fire risk.
When she gets home, I asked her about it.
Apparently for a biology experiment, in photosynthesis. She said the...
I am installing a new electric hob, the wiring came with these cable caps at each end. Its a single phase installation so I'll be combining L1 & L2 at the junction box. Do these cable caps (silver colour) need to be removed? See picture.
I assume so, but if you could confirm it would be...
Evening All
Just seeing if anyone has any experience of these - MVHR?
And who would normally install it along with all the ducting?
I have a 'Eco' new build to price up with this set up.
Meeting Client this week to get full spec on the project, just have brief overview and basic plans so far...
Evening all.
I have just finised an EICR on a new extension. The previous electrician cannot be contacted.
The work was pretty shoddy. No identification sleeving on cables where needed including some earths. The 3 possible codes are as follows:
1. 1mm line conductor in the 6A MCB was loose...
I advised client call UK power networks
Because they had a Ze of 500 ohms on a TN-S
This is what they said to client
“They advised that we contact an electrician to provide an independent local earth and RCD protection or a new PME service to provide satisfactory value of EFLI and test the...
Been helping a friend put some conduit up today to run cat5e and phone cable down to the shed/office in his garden.
His son is doing a plumbing course at college and was keen to help with the conduit and bending,
His method of putting an off set into the conduit was to get a butane torch and...
