Hi All
I have no experience of working with 3 phase (over and above jointing HV stuff!) when I run a 3 phase cable for say three motors each rated at 16amp, is it normal to run one suitably sized cable as a radial to pick up all three motors or should they be separate runs?
Hi All
I am doing an assignment and wondered on a practical/safety note if there are any issues in balancing luminaires over three phases in the same office area fed by a three phase installation, say if I had 21 lights should I put 7 on each phase or stick to one phase and just split them over...
hello,
I am after bit if friendly advise on 3-phase as don't have a lot of experience with it.
3-phase + N supply being fitted to a existing site as there is going to be a very large demand with house, outbuildings and swimming pool. the main intake and 3phase meter is in garage that is...
Good evening every body.
Im new here so hello to one and all
I have a question. I plugged my new 1710 Megger into a TSO in a garage with a two way board on a 30ma RCD. I did an RCD check and my X1 took the RCD out in the garage and the board in the workshop and the main house one too..
I...
Hi All
Just a quick question as I can't remember.
Does the following equation calculate the current per phase or the total current over the three phases?
I(A) = 1000 × P(kW) / (√3 × PF × VL-L(V) )
Hi,
A customer called to say she has experienced small shocks from three different light switches in her house.
The hall, the lounge and the kitchen.
This has happened on three occasions over the last couple of days.
I said, I assume they are metal faceplates...
Nope, 100% plastic...
Ok...
Another family member had a number of eco features added to the home when built a few years ago. This included a ground source heat pump, hence the three-phase, and solar PV.
I had a look at the setup recently and observed the solar PV is single phase. Furthermore, it is on a phase with one...
Hi,
1) To comply with the latest Reg's I assume that 230v 16A sockets for general use, now need RCD protection.
2) If the same type of outlet is for additional isolation of fixed equipment , an RCD is not required as long as it is labelled that it is not to be used for any...
Hello all
I have a quick question on using my on site guide. I've found this forum fantastic for help so far. It's quite simple.
I have a question which asks what the voltage drop for a single core 6mm² 70⁰c insulted cable for a single phase circuit is, enclosed in conduit.
Page 151 of the...
Hi guys, just want a quick sanity check on an installation.
a chap wants 3, 3Kw heaters wired with a programmable thermostat to control all 3 heaters.
my thoughts are:
40A supply to a Contactor ( L-1, N-3)
heaters connected to the contactor ( L-2, N-4)
then a Perm live to the thermostat...
A friend asked me to have a look at a piece of equipment he had recently had installed. It's three phase with an internal transformer (415v to 24v) that provides 24v for the hand switch to operate a relay to switch on the motor. It doesn't work. I measure 8v on the relay rather than 24v. I...
Hi there.
I have been looking at one or two inverters.
Does anyone know if the Invertek Optidrive range is a good one to go for? It does seem a little cheapish for a 3hp drive.
I know this isn't the best way around it, but for people who don't have a three phase supply and just want to run...
Hello there
If i could have some advice please on a heating system would much appreciated
Done a few heating systems in the past with s & y plan systems however an extension i have first fixed the customer is now installing under floor heating. There is a circulation pump, a manifold and two...
Hi guys first time poster. I've been doing domestic electrics for around 7 years now but now looking to get a job working on 3 phase machinery and wiring and was looking for information to refresh my memory as I haven't done anything since leaving college. For example tests like phase rotation...
Hi guys.
Can anyone explain in simple-ish terms how a three phase rcd measures a currents imbalance? It can't be between phases as not all three phase systems are balanced equally so it must be between phase and neutral big how?
Just curious!
My office is moving premises to a larger office of circa 8,000 sqr feet. The old Britway power track under the floor is obsolete and thus the landlord is paying to get it replaced. We are an office type company of around 40 people and our projections show us growing to over double in the coming...
Hi , please can I ask your advice. I have searched everywhere for an answer and am confused.
Pin short I have bought a 5 Kva generator to power a 3300watt vacuum and I need to know how to connect the generator which is fitted with a regulator to a standard three pin socket into which I can plug...
Hi everyone.
please comment on the earthing of three phase as a new installation .
Then are you allowed to use the armour or not and what is the Regulations about earthing when there is a cable with 4 core but you need a neutral and a earth plus the 3phase..?
Many thanks

If you take aone line to a single phase ccu does that mean that the...
3 phase did board you took the phase from is now only a two phase and can't operate three phase
Also if so can you run e.g a single phase lighting circuit on a three phase dis board
Hi, I just have a quick question...
in the factory I am working in there is a 63amp Mcb feeding an 32Amp Switchfuse
which is then feeding a little distribution enclosure which has a 20amp Mcb for one
rcd socket, 20amp,16amp, 10amp and a 4 amp for machinery.
is this right because it does not seem...
