I’ve had three survey visits in the past couple of weeks when the customer has managed to schedule my visit to clash with surveyors from other companies.
Today’s customer managed to book both me and another company at exactly the same time. I arrived a couple of minutes early and was looking...
A colleague of mine has mentioned that they have experienced electric shock symptoms whilst washing up. They say that all the circuits in the kitchen are protected by RCD so assuming they are working ok, it rules out the theory that there is an electrical circuit problem.
Possible earthing...
Hi all, hope all are well. Went to a job today and noticed that they had a socket less than 300mm away from the edge of the hob, I would say more like 150-100mm away. Told them that this wasnt correct and should be moved but obviously they didnt want this as would mess the kitchen up. They said...

Hi everybody,
ive been reading up on the forum for a while and there seems to be very mixed feelings about PAT testing.
i am currently training for the 2365 level 2 two evenings a week, I'm loving the course even though its wrecking my head a little bit. I am thinking about doing the PAT...

Hi,
I've joined the forum because I'm worried about my dad. He is finding it hard to get work through an agency that were keen on him. The reason being is they now need for him to be registered as self employed. He's tried the tax office etc with no look and has been told he needs to be in...
Rather than have a temporary building supply my customer has agreed with Southern Electricity for them to cut and extend his current supply to a cabin at the rear of his house which is being demolished.
I am planning on installing a small CU with 30mA RCD main switch and an earth stake since...
I know i've mentioned the word 'test' in the thread title however this is a piece of information that might be of interest to all in the trade considering the requirements for RCD protection in BS7671 2008 hence why it's in the 'General Electrical Forum'.
Anywho, to set the scene, been...
I have just fitted a Dual RCD split board consumer unit to an existing installation. I wired the upstairs lights to one side and the downstairs lights to the other but when the landing light was switched on the RCD tripped so I looked inside the switches and the feed to the downstairs switch was...
Hi folks,
It’s obvious that wrong voltage setting on the meter, not removing sensitive equipment or not disconnecting loads will give wrong IR reading or fry up the equipment. During IR testing the cables are pressure tested with certain voltage & current to see if they leak...

I'm working on a self-employed basis for a couple of approved electricians at the moment and wondered if it is possible to complete the NVQ in this situation. I have the pre-requisite 2330 L3, 17th & 2391.
By that I mean, has anyone done a quick course, got some of the basic qualifications and made it out into the world into a job to get some real experience?
Most of the short course options seem to have 17th edition, 2382, maybe 2391 and 2377. No 2330 or NVQ's though...... Basic Part P...
After recently passed level 2, of the 2330,I'am looking forward to a year of level 3,(a bit more practical I hope), & my question is,could I take the 2382 whilst taking level 3 ?
