What happens if a board does set on fire. I did a new install in 2009-2010 and forgot that I had installed a wylex board.
Today the Bloke called me to say his C/U started buzzing then set on fire. I attended with in a hour and the board was burnt and a fire had started.
I changed the board and...

I have just fitted new consumer unit (wylex) but absolutely no markings on the switch or the box/info sheet.
Its a standard 17th unit split load 2 rcds and 10 circuit breakers.
Any ideas
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help
Hiya,
I have received a coupe of quotes for electrical work that I need doing.
One is supply and fit, the other quote for fitting only.
However, on the supply and fit, I have been quoted a ridiculous price for some Wylex circuit breakers. ÂŁ4.55 each in Screwfix, whereas I have been quoted...
Anybody know the dimesions of the old Wylex boards?
I'm doing a quote to replace an 8 way and a 6 way which are butted up to each other and no spare room around them, didn't take the measurements whilst I was there, looks like I may have to fill with RCBOs rather than split board(s).
Ok, my flat was built in about
1960, it has a very old wylex fuse box for which the fuse for the heating and
power is one switch. The lights have blown but I still have power.
In
the past when the fuse has blown the power and lighting has been lost so
therefore the fuse has not blown this...
I have just been doing some work on a CU which has BS3871 push button MCBs and all I can see on the things is Wylex SK and 6A, how do I tell the type and the breaking capacity
Hi, My name is Phil and I am based in Warwickshire, whilst I have many years of experience in the electrical industry I have recently come across a problem that I cannot recall seeing before. I installed some new fluorescent fittings in the local community hall and upon carrying out a Zs reading...
Fuse blew in a shower circuit last night, the guy said the fuse was roasting and stuck to the fuse carrier . It's an 8.5 kw shower on 30A fuse.
i poped new fuse in and stuck clamp meter on and was pulling 28A
isit normal for the fuse to get roasting in 5 mins
Has anyone heard that Wylex have changed the process for dealing with the MCB product recall?
I had to inspect a Volex board yesterday for some proposed works. Customer just moved in to new house. No idea who did the original install just a test date on the board suggesting it fits with the...
Hi Guys and Gals :21:,
I'm not a regular on this forum but an email dropped into my inbox this morning from a person purporting to be a Mr "John Smith". OK the name failed the first hurdle as did the rest of his email as below:
Hello
My name is John Smith and I am eager to order some few...
I think I may know the likely answer here, but.. does anyone know if it is possible to fit an RCBO into an old Wylex NN914 board?
Board is some thing like this (though plastic not metal clad) looking to replace an NB30 breaker:
I am thinking it is very unlikely and will probably need to use a...
I'm looking to change a CU in an ex local authority flat and there is simply no space in the cupboard! I read on here about skeleton units which seem to be the best option. I am looking to get one like this 10 Way Split Load Skeleton Consumer Unit - 100 Amp Switch + RCD but it seems a bit bigger...
Working on a kitchen alteration where i have to alter kitchen ring main, which now means i believe i must leave this circuit rcd protected, what is the best way of doing this as the cu is a old wylex rewireable fuse one,and i dont have to want to fit the new sockets in kitchen with rcd face...
Hi all, sorry had probs submitting a post. Ok here we go, have replaced CU and put in RCBO's 6a 32a 40a. all wired in, RCBO cpc fly lead to designated bar, N to its bar. L & N out, correctly wired into RCBO and cpc to earth bar. supply polarity correct. bus bar is solid not flexy. Energised...
I've seen various posts about this but wanted to start a new one, nothing like repitition. I am installing a new CU and it currently has an 80amp DP isolator between the service head and two split old wylex rewirable boards. I will be installing a 14 way board which comes with an 100amp Main...
A simple one I guess but one I have not come across:
3 bed house - 1 CU - 16th edition I guess with 1 RCD covering 5 circuits.
The kitchen was on the downstairs ring.
I have added a brand new kitchen ring and a 6mm cooker feed.
Can I use RCBOs to protect the circuits on the spare side that...
I've got a consumer unit to change which is tight for space. It's a neighbours house and when I did my board at home I used an 8 way wylex and RCBOS, this worked out ok but it might be a bit dear for the customer compared to a dual RCD set up. The only issue is the customer had a burglar alarm...
