1.5mm circuit 1mm switched drops

Went to a job today ( domestic ) checking through the installation ( which has recently been rewired ) I noticed that the lighting was 1.5mm but the switch drops were 1mm anyone seen this before?

not seen it before were the switch drops pulled back down existing conduit thats the only reason i can think of

Done it myself, where 1.5mm wouldn't fit down the conduits. Can't see a problem if the circuit's on a suitably rated breaker.

I think that may have been the reason, nothing a few squirts of yellow 77 would.nt sort though

The switch drop will only take the load of the lights it is switching so probably a good cost saver if the jobs a bit tight.

Obviously it's a hypothetical situation that would probably never arise in most domestic properties but if the 1.5 was used to it's maximum surely the heat that would conduct through the copper would be too much for the 1mm.

I've seen it on a number of jobs....usually council properties.

Hope the conduits were earthed as well as grommeted. We never use them now as it's near impossible to so!

Oh it's a joy trying to get a 951 earth clamp on an old conduit drop, in a floor space

exactly i got pulled for using the old tubes on my first NIC inspection. He went into the loft just to inspect if we'd used them. had a right go at me - still passed though.
Still save the old grommets though

It's a mis-conception that Tri-rated has a higher current rating; the cable actually to conforms to three different standards. These standards are:
1. BS6231 ~ (UK)
2. UL Subject 758 Appliance Wiring Materials (AWM) ~ (USA)
3. Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved.
