may have covered this already but,,,
was wiring a new house today one of the lads pipes up could run the 10mm earth bond from the main earth terminal in the external box to the gas pipe as its 200mm away in the gas box! i said did i just hear right? his response was whats the difference?

so guys your thoughts on his question.

Cant see the issue personally.

The installation MET is within the external cabinet whilst the earthing bar in the CU becomes a BEMT. As long as sizes are sufficient and all labelled correctly it's fine.

If you transpose this to an industrial situation, ie a water treatment works, then using EMT's is the way to go. The price difference would be substantial. Some of the works I am involved with are very large, and you simply run main bonding from the nearest DB that has a sufficiently sized CPC. Sometimes purpose built earth bars are used. With main bonding ect, the regs make no differientation between domestic & industrial ect. The problem comes when a spark follows your work and because it doesn't comply with the "common practice", then your work will be slated. Regarding this issue though, run it from the external box.

Indeed it would be. But that would mean having 2 things to disconnect instead of one. More margin for error. Of course, any diligent spark would...
