Is it ok to install the 12v transformer next to fan in bathroom?
Also do we only have to use 12v in zone 1 & 2 can we use 240v in zone 2
do fans need a isolating switch outside of bathroom if fed from light with timer and no timer??
Cheers for the advise guys.:90: :biggrin5:

Ask yourself why you are using a 12v fan, then wonder why you would not want to put the transformer next to it?

OSG for your zones, very very obvious answer.

They need isolator switch, can get 3pole switch for outside or 3 pole pull cord for inside. (I have been known to actually put this isolator next to an inline fan in the loft...rare but I had to do it!)

Also check Manufacturers instructions re 3A fuse.

Lenny and CBW has realy answered the question the transformer has to be outside the zones ,as well as 230 volt fans ,even outside the zones the circuits must be protected by an RCD

You can use an IPX4 230V fan in either zones 1 or 2, as long as it is suitable for installation in the zone, according to the manufacturer's instructions.
However a transformer for SELV fan, must be outside of the zones.

So you do not need to have a 12v fan in zone 1??
What about 12v spotlights in bathroom zone 1 do they have to be ip rated?? and why
cheers

No you don't have to have a 12V fan in zone 1, however if you do install one, the transformer will have to be outside of the zones.
Anything other than an uninsulated conductor will have an IP rating.
The minimum required for zones 1 & 2 is IPX4.
That doesn't necessarilly mean that a higher IP rating will not be required, if for instance the equipment is likely to be subjected to external influences that would warrent a higher rating, such as being subjected to water jets, hoses or is at a seaside location.

Example,If you had a bog standard fitting with the lamp open to the elements
What could happen to your little pinkies when it shatters

i always thought you needed 12v in zone 1 of bathroom. so you can have 230v in bath but has to be a minimum of ipx4. What about 12v spotlights does the same apply, as long as i has a ip rating for its use. and when installaing a fan does it need isolating switch?
