hi there i am new to the forum so any help would be much appreciated i currently own a motorbike and have made myself a heated waistcoat it is 12v 5amp i was wondering what regulatiolns there are on me making these and selling them the only thing i can find is that it falls under low risk of a shock thanks

but there could be a risk of fire and/or burns. i think you query is outside the realms of this forum. you need to make more general enquiries regarding compliance with god knows how many rules and regs.

I have made three of them and have been using them for the last 6 years. Make sure you make them out of Teflon coated stranded wire and not single core as this will break in no time.

The general electrical installation regs wouldn't cover a 12V DC item that's connected to a motorcycle battery. As Tel pointed out there is a high risk of fire or damaging the vehicle's electrical system in the event of a fault so I'd pay particular attention to making them safe by using fuses etc.

I copied mine straight from a google search, I adjusted it to meet my requirements, works a treat, looks a bit Heath Robinson so I would not be in the market to sell them. I ride all year round and the jacket makes a huge difference in the winter.

yes i have put a fuse on it is built in the plug it all seems great and works fine i have used teflon coated wire and like u say looks a bit untidy.is there any regulations on this sort of product. thanks for all your feedback

I am sure just as eggs are eggs there will be a multitude of regs and hoops to jump through if you wish to sell them. I am not aware of the regs unfortunately. I also used a 12volt pulse width regulator to control the heat which I can transfer between bikes.
