13.8kw cooker cablesize

Robo

So its a 60A oven.

using diversity.
Large range double oven.13.8kw

10A +

(30% of 50A remaing) 15A

+ 5A fo socket on oven switch.

So 30A total.

Its 15m run.

S0 will a 6mm cable with 32A breaker be ok.

Iv been lookin at past posts, can not see anything about volt drop.????

Real question is yes i agree with the 6mm which should be ok allowing for diversity etc ,having said that what are the installation methods being used is it in a loft with insulation etc as the current carrying capacity can be drastically reduced , personally i'd go for the 10mm as has been mentioned future use and all that and the Xmas dinner or sunday lunch for that matter

Im sure the 6mm will be fine too, though i dont seem to allow diversity for cookers how you do(?). At least you know the cable is good for the breaker so in an overload scenario you get a popped breaker and not a hot cable!!!
Method 2 (not reccommended lol) Have spare breakers with you, fully accesible trunking and run it in runs of 1mm singles as paralel conductors. Trial and error with the cooker on various settings will give you the right combination. Best to go for the original idea tho...... (please dont follow guide 2!!!)

I've read most of the subsequent posts, since Robo agreed to install the 6mm T&E cable above.
While i can see nothing wrong with future proofing, by up-grading to a 10mm cable, this realistically would only be a necessity when covering a cooker load of around 16 to 17KW... It is certainly not neccessary as some have suggested, for the cooking load/ length of run/ etc of the cooker being installed here....

It is well worth remembering that the long established cooker diversity factor is probably the only DF listed in BS7671, that Professional design engineers will use, and that's because it works very well!!!

Agree with you engineer old mate but to be honest I could not have envisaged the day 10 yr ago when we are now installing 10kw+ showers, 10kw CH boilers and oven ranges with induction hobs that are 14kw+

Instead of becoming greener we are using more electricity in our homes now than we ever have. The 60amp main DNO supply is becoming a thing of the past, which is why the IET in the OSG is recommending all installations utilise 25mm tails.

I can see the day and not to far in the future domestic supplies becoming 3 phase, espicially as we are running out of gas.

If the run was 13 meters or less, then only a 4mm cable would be required, taking diversity into account 31.6 Amps, and of course if you take off the socket it is 26.6 Amps
