Im changing my current 13A fused spur with a new one which is spured off the kitchen ring. the fused spur is spured off a double socket. There are 2 2.5mm2 cables with 2 red and 2 black and 2 earth wires. the flex which powers the boiler has 1 blue, 1 brown and 1 earth wires. I took note of the wiring arrangements before i disconnected the old fused spur and connected the new spur exactly how the old spur was connected but its now not working.

The 2 black wires i connected to the N terminal, 2 reds to the L terminal, the flex wire i connected the blue wire to the other N terminal and the brown wire to the other L terminal and the 3 earth wires to the earthing terminal.

Is that correct or not,

thanks WAMS

Get yourself a voltage tester and find where you have and don't have voltage. Cant understand how something so simple is giving so much grief.

Either you don't have voltage to the FCU or the FCU is knackered.

Why are you changing it anyway?

I checked and I did terminate the copper not the insulation. the wires are not long enough to physically get a good eye view of the terminations.

I have plenty of new fuses and tried a couple of them and still no joy.

I did a continuity test with the spur disconnected, everything fine, readings good, then foolishly I did a live test with a cheap digital multimeter from toolstation a Dt-830B set the multimeter 200 ohms and put the probes to L in and N in blew the multimeter.

I have changed all the socket faces in kitchen as ive just recently decorated plus there was a crack on the face of the fused spur.

Sorry lads for the delay internet connection problems.

I took the other neon fused spur back to the shop and got an exchange, the fused spur is now working and the boiler is up and running.

Thanks to all that replied.

just goes to show the state of affairs when new equipment purchased is duff. i can buy 3 1gang plate switches from B&Q for ÂŁ1. but would I? NO WAY.

2 years ago I bought 3 ceiling switch pull cords from Maxwells and they all broke within 2 months so I went to City Electrical Factors, Ive had no trouble since.

I used to rave about MK infact my whole house is MK but now that I am doing work for a letting agent I am having to use Grabtree because I feel the quality of MK is dire (in my opinion) I could use cheaper stuff but I find the the gear that I am replacing is either Volex or Marbo. Yes I should be saying cheap as chips and who cares but I am old school and even although I still think reputation counts I realise a lot of people dont

Funny how preferences differ
Crabtree, as we know, had build up a fine reputation over the years, then all of a sudden their equipment was probably outsourced to foreign lands, with the result being their double sockets are absolutely atrocious, even to the point that I will under no circumstances use them
The terminals must have been designed by a contortionist who thinks screwdrivers can bend around in accessable plastic bits, that are conveniantly in the way on these extra flimsy sockets

The depth of bare copper to terminate in the connection belies the assumption that an a screw can manage to get any sort of grip on it (which they dont anyway, because the terminals are screwed at such an angle that destruction of the head of the screw is the only way a secure connection can be made).

They are utter total trash and if I was unfortunate enough to have a couple donated to me,in the bin they would go, where they belong

Their other accessories dont seem to have yet deteriorated to such poor quality,so maybe its just one almighty fall in standards for this one item

MK has always been many a projects standard accessory because they were generally the best off the shelve accessories you could buy. But like many have already stated many times on the forums, that quality has been falling in recent years, but not so much the price!!! Even specialist companies products like Wentworths are nowhere near what they once were....

To be honest, i've come accross all sorts of branded accessories that i've never heard of before, mostly in the budget market. Also noticed accessories being branded by well known companies like ABB, Le grand and the like, that on inspection, you just know there total rubbish, but still priced in the prestige market domain!!

I guess like many areas in our industry these days, the falling of standards and quality levels seems to be the norm these days ....unfortunately!!!

so, might just as well buy the cheap ( ÂŁ2.50 for a twin S/O ). having said that, i find clik are reasonable quality for a sensible price.
