So I have just been to my friends new build house, on looking round I noticed a bank of 4 switches in the lounge, only one of which turned the ceiling lights on? When I inquired to what the other three did, he replied the electrician had wired them to 3 x 13A sockets around the room for them to plug lamps into, so they could be turned on/off when entering the room! Whilst I can't find any regulation saying you can't have 13A sockects on a lighting circuit, It's not something I would do. At least he could have fitted 5A outlets. The circuit is wired in 1.5mm T&E & protected by 6A MCB, so if something was plugged into the socket rated higher than 6A I guess it would just trip the breaker & the cable would be protected, I'm just not sure this is good practice? Also the distribution board is mounted just below ceiling hight in a small cupboard!! Not very accessable!! Any thoughts or regs would be appriciated.
