Discuss 16mm tails insulation in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net
I would consider it for a few seconds, then realise it most likely the stiff copper than makes the tails mildly difficult to bend not the outer sheath.I wouldn't do it or even consider it. If you want flexible tails, get tri rated ones.
I don't16mm meter tail cable has a double layer of insulation. What do all think of removing the outer layer of insulation, to make it flexible, when the cable is being run entirely in plastic trunking.
It is 3 inch trunking. Not that tight. As it is inside trunking making it more flexible occurred to me. The trunking adds insuation value. Why do things the hard way? But as been mentioned, it may not make that much difference as the copper may be the stiffness. It must be a tight spot if your having trouble with 16mm. When I get to use 16mm tails rather than 25mm its like a holiday.
I would just buy tri-rated singles in run in containment, saves damaging the insulation when stripping the outer sheath off
Neither do I as the trunking makes the difference.Technically I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.
Would I do it, is a different story.
As others have said, get the tails with more strands, much more flexible.
It would be placed in, not dragged through, so the insulation would not be harmed. Only 1 to 1.5m long.I think true “singles” have a tougher insulation for drawing through conduit and the like, so stripping off the outer grey sheath and leaving the inner insulation wouldn’t offer the same protection.
Yes, I understand it’s not the same as pulling through, but the inner insulation still isn’t up to the same treatmentIt would be placed in, not dragged through, so the insulation would not be harmed. Only 1 to 1.5m long.
