Guys,

I'm currently recruiting for a team of great 17th Edition Electricians for work across the North West guaranteed for up to 2 years with experience of working with the Water Board.

What kind of wage would you guys expect for this work? does 12/13 per hour sounds about right?

If you could let me know it would be a massive help! And of course if anyone is interested get in touch!

Mike

does 12/13 per hour sounds about right?

not if it's subbing and/or cis.

subcontracting?

and excuse my ignorance but what is CIS?

Its a two year contract via us for a manufacturer who has a contract with United Utilities, so they will need water hygiene cards, scats (among other things)

If anyone can help me out on this I would appreciate it, as I want to make sure whoever I recruit doesnt get underpaid.

What sort of wage would you recommend?

CIS = Construction Industry Scheme. You stop 20% off their wages and pay it to Inland Revenue then issue the men with Remittance Slip. Won't apply to you if it's a maintenance contract though. Then they will have to be PAYE.

Looking at ÂŁ15 - ÂŁ16 an hour for sparks with those cards TBH. For first 40 hrs, then time and a half/ double time. Or you could work a bonus scheme/ price work.

Plenty of really good guys seeking work now, or working agency for ÂŁ14 - ÂŁ15. And they love overtime! You can't really compare these rates on CIS with one-man bands needing ÂŁ25-30 an hour to cover overheads.

right okay, appreciate the help there guys.

so you think when I come to recruiting most people will look for this, or is this the lower/higher end of the spectrum?

if you're asking for specialist cards/ experience, then definitely the starting point. Guys can get ÂŁ15 an hour on any site throwing in tube, trunking and tray.

Keep in mind that you want a GOOD JOB DONE, and if you pay peanuts, then you know what you'll get. BUT if you advertise for a job with GOOD MONEY on offer, then you'll have to pick through MANY applications to distill down to the guys you really want on the job.

I was on several Thames Water rekits back in the late 80's and was getting about ÂŁ10ph then, dont recall having to have any specialist cards at the time though, dont think you would get many takers for 12/13ph but work is work I guess. Good luck

Agency?? whats your cut? LOL, how much do you want to make on each spark? and do you want us to wash your laundry as well as let you know rates of pay???????????

Mike, you've got an opportunity to add helpful input here and boost the trade a bit. So what if he's an agency. Let's help the guys at the coalface get their fair share. ÂŁ15 + standard time in today's climate, as a subby is the going rate.

Do you use subbys? what do you consider a fair rate? What do you pay your guys on the books?

Hi Guys,

Really appreciate the input from you all here.

MDJ, you've got the wrong idea. A client has asked us to source the electricians for him, and submit a daily rate so he can fit it into his budgets. Yes we make a margin on each candidate, however that is on top of the daily rate of each electrician, and is charged to the client (as we are providing a service) and wouldn't impact the electricians in anyway.
