Hi all,

A couple of things. I am looking to do the 17th edition. I have made the odd enquiry and I have been quoted about £400. I can't really afford this and wanted to know if anyone knows of any places where I can do the exam only which will hopefully cost a lot less. I live in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
Secondly, does anyone have any past papers or discs etc that you would kindly pass onto me so I can get some practice in ? Would really appreciate any help.

Dave.

to be honest, mine has sat here for 4 months, unopened, as i've not yet come across any situation where there is a difference between the red and the green.

Dave19. The regs exam is not a memory test, its a test that you can look at a situation on site and then look in a book for an answer.

Telectrix and Howard have already said the main things. What I will say is this:-

Do you want to just pass the exam or understand its teachings?

Imho its a very easy exam to pass but you will not think that when your revising for it like you are. Good luck to you, but you don't need it if you can read a book.

The regs is like an A-Z, the question asks you about a bathroom installation? That's section 7.

You don't need a massive amount of research to pass the exam. I could sit my wife down for an hour and then let her sit the exam and pass. I'm not taking anything away from this qual but you don't need to be a rocket scientist to pass it, its what you do afterwards that counts.

Please post up any questions that you are unsure of and we will help you. All you need is a level head, think straight and be able to look through an index of a book, the rest is how you intemperate the question and your answer.

Thanks Paul. I was just wondering if I had to go out and buy anpther book or can I just use the red one and maybe get some other info on what the updates are from the last ?

if you use the red book, i would estimate that you'll get a few questions wrong. if all your answers from red book are correct, you'll pass.( IMO)

When you start college they will loan you the BGB for your lessons and the exam so no need to worry on that part. Just read/look through whatever books you have now and they will have a number next to the part your reading. The first number is the SECTION and anything after that is the reg.

Please read the question and look for the key words, they will lead you to the reg and then the answer. Once you've passed you will then learn the meaning of the question once out in the field.

The green book is different and a lot better than the red and it's in use everyday, my computer unit with missing wheel wobbles less now as the green book is a bit thicker than the red one. Much Better !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
Past questions are good to look at. But I think 17th edition is about understanding the book and navigating the Wiring Regs. The best advice ..... I think is: READ AND UNDERSTAND THE BOOK. If you read and understand the book, then you better of. Hope this makes sense.

Do some of the free online tests. Get used to using the book. After doing this I passed mine easy enough.
