For those of us who will be taking the 17th exam in the near future a few tips.
When you look at the Gola Screen the question number that you are on is shown bottom left hand corner and the questions are in sequence

Section 1 the first 4 questions
Section 2 the next 3 questions
Section 3 the next 5 questions
Section 4 the next 14 questions
Section 5 the next 15 questions
Section 6 the next 6 questions
Section 7 the next 10 questions
Last 3 question from appendixs.

Do not mark the BRB you will not be allowed to take the exam with it.
If the question refers to additional protection the answer is 30mA.

Never close your book when you have found an answer the next answer is nearby.

Not for everyone but when I did it I went through all 60 and answered the ones I knew without reference to BRB.

If anyone else would like to add to this please do so

Good luck on the day.

Chris

I think marking the book must depend on where you take the exam - I wrote in mine, highlighted it and tagged sections of interest and they were fine with it.

I would suggest flagging the answers you have given from memory unless you are 100% sure of them, then go back and look them up if you have time.

I suppose the questions that you get can also be a factor.

My 17th edition group were lucky as we'd been studying the 17th as part of our 2330, so a lot of the answers we already knew.

I turned up to the exam with no tags and just got my head stuck in and still passed...

It all depends what GOLA throws at you at the end of the day.

good advice there, i went through and answered all the ones i knew and flagged the rest like the other post. i got the software from the electrical exams website. was top stuff worked through it with the big red one a couple of weeks before hand and most of my questions on the c&g exam were the same.

Just out of curiosity. I am studying the 2330, just finished level 2. As we are working to the 17th edition regs, our tutor said that we should be alright just booking the exam rather than doing the full course. Is this wise? Does anyone know where you can book the exam or do you just go into your local college? I just don't fancy spending ÂŁ333 when I have 2 courses to pay for next year!

I've got mine next week. I phoned C&g and they said you can highlight text, fold pages and have blank bookmarks. You can't write anything in the book.

I would like to ask though, does the exam tell you which section you are referring to (1-8) like it does in the official 'Exam sucess' book?

Just Google 17th Edition Questions & Answers. Here's one: 17th Edition Electrical Questions & Answers

The exam doesn't tell what section you are in. If you can mark your book - if you are on a course they will tell you if you can - put a post it note with the sections/questions as acat eluded too. Definitely use the Exam Succes book as well, good training. I was fairly confident when I went into the exam, but my heart sank when I read the first few questions and could answer them! However, just flagged them and went back to them, and found the answers all bar one, and I guessed with a 'C' (got it wrong!). Time fly's as well.

I think the majority of the training centres/colleges would not let you do exam only because there not going to make as much money!

If you can do exam only and you know your way around the regs book then go for it but then if you were to struggle reading it that could cost you more in the long run!

I'll be honest with you that I hadn't even looked at the regs book until I did the course! It ended up costing me more because I was eligible for the one day update but kept leaving it then came amendment one so lost out there!

Anyone who fails an open book multiple choice exam is a numpty in my eyes!
