I'm taking my 17th edition exam in less than 2 weeks, i have the 17th edition red book to revise with but i got told that the green/blue book is the one to be used at present, i am totally freaking out about this. does this mean that the red book is going to be no use to me in this exam?

no i havent got that one :( i finished my level 3 in june and did not know about another book untill i went and had a chat with my tutor this morning :( when i have exams i study around the clock to make sure i cant possibly fail so as you can imagine i have been reading the red book in bed/bath and i have even took it on a date with me just in case i had a spare 5 min to learn :(

Have you not got the green book?
It's been out since the 1st of July.

Sorry, couldn't resist it.
As fuzzy says, the green book doesn't take effect untill 1st of January, so exams at least untill then are to the red book.

I wouldnt worry the exam is easy, 120 mins to complete, 60 questions, with a minimum of 60% to pass (36 correct answers).

I took the 12 week course and felt it was a waste of time, i opened the book once through the whole exam and walked out after 25 mins, passed with 90%

Try not to worry about it too much

fair play, i hope i do as well as you did :)

Most of the class scored highly, apart from the scrotes who were there because the dole payed for it

They had no chance at all really the instructor didnt even know what he was talking about, he asked the class full of electricians what TWO instances a RcD was used for, i raised the subject of bathroom circuits and he didnt have a clue what i was talking about, quite amusing seeing the look on the faces of 20 odd electricians

To quote myself from an earlier post...

How will the wiring regulation changes affect the 2382 qualification?

A new programme of study, 2382-12, will launch in September 2011. This qualification will assess knowledge of BS 7671:2008(2011).

The existing 2382 qualifications (2382-10) and (2382-20) will close on 31 December 2011.

Which qualification should candidates sit for the remainder of 2011?

Candidates who wish to demonstrate knowledge of BS 7671:2008 may continue to undertake 2382-10, or 2382-20 if they meet the stipulated entry requirements.
Candidates who have knowledge of the 1st amendment should enter the 2382-12 qualification once it is launched in September 2011.

Will the existing 2382 assessments (units 100 and 200) be updated?

No, the existing qualifications still assess knowledge of BS 7671:2008 (the red book), and will not reflect amendments made in the 2011 ‘green book’.

Is there an ‘update’ qualification for the 1st amendment?

No, there is no ‘update’ or ‘short’ version of this qualification. All candidates wishing to demonstrate knowledge of BS 7671:2008(2011) must sit the 2382-12 qualification.

Do some of the free online tests. Get used to using the book. After doing this I passed mine easy enough.
