hi guys,

I work for the company that developed this course (in partnership with niceic), so if the mods don't mind a little self-promotion I thought I'd just add a few details about it.

It's an e-learning course developed in Flash by our in-house graphic design team - high quality stuff. Once you buy it, you're automatically enrolled in our learning management system(LMS) and auto emailed your login details. You then go through the training and "challenges" at whatever pace you like, and once you've completed everything, the LMS makes a practice test available to you. Because it's all online, you can use a combination of work computer, home computer or whatever you like.

The cost doesn't include the 17th Edition Standard Manual, but it does include the test fee. And yes, once you've done the course the real exam has to be done at a GOLA test centre.

If you need to know more, or want to see a demo - check out this link online 17th edition course, or give us a ring.

So for those who have not yet done the course do we have a list of GOLA test centres that allow candidates to take the test without their course.

I know that North Lindsey College in S****horpe (just off the M180) allows external candidates.

I realise nobody selling the actual product will see this thread, but is ÂŁ400 not just a tad expensive for what is essentially a distance learning course with only computer-based assessments? Reading the NIC website you dont even have the option of interaction with a tutor.

I appreciate a lot of ÂŁÂŁ goes into developing this sort of thing, but ÂŁ400 a pop?

Edit: I'm talking about the town off the M180.

Thats just it I dont know of anyone that will allow you to sit the exam without doing their course. If anyone knows of such places then in reality it would be better for people to use the software provided by chris_b_52 on this forum free of charge and then when confident enrol for the exam, a darn site cheaper than tutor lead or online course.

i know of a place in west yorkshire that will allow you to do just that. if anyone wants the details PM me. thats how I did mine i paid ÂŁ30 for a simulator and ÂŁ50+ the govs bit and it was job done. the only thingg was they would only allow me to do the full 17th exam ie all 60 questions instead of the 30 but hey ho for a saving of ÂŁ300 ish i did not mind answering thirty extra questions for that.

Sorry Chris,

Looking back I can now see I mis-read what you said. I read it as 'we do have' not 'do we have'.

Must be getting dyslexic in my old age :(

I take your point and yes it is expensive. In fact it's way more expensive than just about all the other courses available from Virtual College, but that's purely because of the huge investment we had to make in developing it. It's far costlier to produce something like this than a soft-skills course like "listening skills" or "manual handling" and the price reflects that.

Whether we have the pricing point right I don't know, but the course is selling and it's a very competitive market so time will tell.

Most sparks are too thick, really, to get anything other than an exam pass out of this. But if you want to make the niceic rich, go for it.
