I can't undertstand why RCD protection is required upto 20amp on sockets? They only make 13 amp sockets anyway dont they?

No, 16A socket outlets are common in industrial and commercial premises, and the RCD protection is as important on those as it is on the 13A variety. Many 16A installations do not have RCD's fitted as they are often used for IT equipment and under the control of a suitably qualified person, but the same rules apply.
The next one up is the 32A variety, usually red. However, these do not come under the same regulation as they are above the 20A threshold
Correct and incorrect, you can get a 32A single phase socket which is blue, red denotes that it is 400v as yellow denotes 110v different voltage ratings have different colours.
seems a bit pointless having 20a as the limit then really?
