Hi guys, I'm rewireing a house and got this situation....

The meter position is in the garage and a very old black cable leaving the meter then going thru a switched fuse and onto the cu about 5 - 6 meters away

The roof between the garage and house has been pulled down, am I right in saying the tails would have to go to an enclosure then a SWA under ground then back into an enclosure then into the cu.

Also can I drive a rod into the ground outside the front door by cu or do I need an MET at the meter position?

Cheers

I'm confused by the second part of your post. The position of any necessary rods wouldn't really have a bearing on the installation or not of a MET, normally you would take the main earth and bonding to a MET (which could be the CU's earth bar) then one cable to the rods.
How much distance is there between the garage and the house? there may be options here

Not to clear there Trev was I.

Is there any requirement for a MET at the intake position or can I just run main earth straight to the cu then the main bonding conductors from the cu onwards.

The distance from garage to house from external wall to external wall is about 1 meter.

Your MET can be either outside of the CU or the CU's earth bar mate, I'm assuming from the earlier post that we're talking about a TT in which case run your main earth to either and connect any bonding cables to the same point. I like to use the CU, others prefer a MET.
I'm off to have a look at what the regs say about catenary and overhead containment systems for the tails.

the black rubber cable you mention should be replaced it could quite well be perished what i tend to do with SWA termination is to use a metal clad switch fused spur and run the tails from the DNO metering / switch if they have provided one to the switch fused spur then from there in armoured then to the consumer unit metal clad or into a galv adaptable box but straight through it into the board if insulated but only removing the armoured this way you keep the double insulation straight into the board then run a seperate earth to the adaptable box hope that makes sense
