2 way and intermediate

hi all,
having a complete brain fart at the moment

mate called me up after trying to replace some switches and losing his way

two way and intermediate set up but the live feed is coming in at the intermediate.

for the life of me i cant get my brain in gear and explain it to him in easy to understand terms and i cant be arsed to go have a look after last nights session

any chance of a heads up from someone feeling abit cleverer than me

i bet if you take down one of the 2 way switches you will find a twin which connects to L1 and L2 with 2 cores of the 3 core

i bet you wont ive seen pics via mobile

still a single 3 core and earth

o right must be in a junction box somewhere then just have a play with the cables connecting them in different ways to find out whats what. if it worked before you must be abe to get it working again.

thats conventional 2 way and intermediate mate, no 2 core feed out on this one.

must be a jb somewhere. best if i have a look myself tomorrow

By the way hes explaning it mate i dont think its wired like that one of the 3 cores must go via a junction box i reakon but he will have to investigate the situation.

Just been playing with 2 Two way switches and an intermediate one. Interesting results :-D The intermediate switch as we all know has to swap the strappers over, but the Live and switch live can be fed into the strappers anywhere, including at the ceiling rose for the light! I reckon in this situation the intermediate switch has been added at a later date and the 3 core to each 2 way switch extended to where the new intermediate switch is. So my guess is to wire the red and blue wires through the intermediate switch and join the yellow ones together.

quick update.

had a look today and am totally stumped.

reckons he was only swapping switches

getting 243 volts between red and yellow and red and blue on 3 core entering top of intermediate and getting 207 volts between red and blue at ground floor switch

made my excuses and left

Why dont you rap the lot together and get the light working
Identify where the live and switched live is situated and wangle the rest of the cores to turn it into the circuit you require

There has to be a supply conductor
There has to be a switched live

If the 3 cores are continuous to each switch(even if they are via a jb) the 2 way+ intermediate can be made with those feeds identified and the cables that are present

on the circuit there are 6 wall lights and 2 ceiling lights and as i am flat out at the moment its one of those jobs i just dont need

theres obviously more to it than ive been told too as he hasnt just been swapping switches has he
