Hi all,

I have enrolled on to the NVQ level 3 course with the AM2 assessment and I'm eager to complete my portfolio in order to further my career.
I started off working for free as I had a career change at the age of 26. I've worked on various sites, worked for various reactive maintenance firms and now I work for myself. I've focused on been a self employed domestic electrician for the past 3 years, I've enjoyed every moment which is why I now want to expand and make a transition onto commercial sites.
I'm 37 and enjoy my trade but I aim to have 2 qualified sparks and two apprentices on my team by the time I'm 40.
My short term goal is to complete my portfolio with XS Training within 6 months, while still providing a service to my existing customers. I can achieve this by subcontracting for one or two firms part time. I'm an experienced electrician, I'm registered with Napit, up to date with H&S having just achieved my ECS Labourers card for the third time. (Obviously this will be gold by the time we're all ready for the 18th Edition) I have PPE, my own van and all the other assets you'd expect a self employed electrician to have. All I need now is for someone to help me to achieve my goals while receiving quality work and reliability in return.
This is where you all come in. If you know any firms I can contact, any direction you can advise I take, or any general advice you can offer... even if you are in the same position and think it would be beneficial to work together then I'd like to have a conversation.
Feel free to share experience's, horror stories as well as success stories. I would be interested in hearing from professionals I can learn from.

I look forward to your responses.

Darren
