When you say you have qualified as an Electrician what have you actually got.

Hard to believe as it is Commercial and Industrial is less regulated than Domestic in many respects. Though all electrical work comes under the ESCQR-2002 and all work places come under the EAWR it is the HSE that covers this.

As you know Domestic Dwellings are covered under the Part P legislation and the Local Building Control. Though Part P is a contentious point it is still the law and you have to abide by it as an Electrician.

Industrial and Commercial does not have any such scheme and therefore just about anyone can work on the electrical side of it, if they feel competent enough to do so. Most Commercial or Industrial Contractors are members of NICEIC and are assessed very much like Domestic contractors. There is though no need to be a member of any scheme to do Commercial or Industrial Electrcial work, but most companies will not offer you a contract unless you are.

Like domestic though you should work to the BS 7671-2008 and therefore any work done should be done to that standard and of course certificated. The only difference in domestic to commercial/industrial is that you have no need to notify your work.

In the spirit of being honest I would say you are not qualified enough to work on commercial or industrial. As a bare minimum I would say you should do the 2330 as this will give you a pretty good basic background into Electrcial Work.

When your working espicially in industrial you are going to encounter 3 phase circuits, motor circuits etc these can be quite involved and quite dangerous if your not confident in them.

On the testing side I would recommend you do the 2391-10 but again this is quite an intensive course and quite theory based. The 2392-10 is slighly less intensive and covers mainly initial verification but it is a good stepping stone onto the 2391-10 and ultimately the 2391-20.

I applaud you wanting to get ahead and hope you do. I can only advise really if you know sparks in the industry go for those jobs and seek their advice and even offer the jobs to them and help them for experience
