Niceic official line is if you have 2391 it could be of benefit for you to do the course but not mandatory YET

its not even mandatory to have the 2391 to join NIC anyway lol
so i dont why theyd expect you to do its replacement quals.

Inferior you say, but in 5/10 yrs time the 2391 will be the same as the ONC, remembered fondly but not recognised, every prospective employer wants the latest qualifications and 2391 will not cut it,although we all know it is a great qualification.

Not recognised, ...Says Who??

i think the problem is many employers demand a testing qualification. the 2391 is a designer level / inspection testing exam. not for guys just out of their time. come on! if you,ve never come across it, how can you inspect it. the 2391 was what it was supposed to be/ a qualification for exprienced electricians. not 20 year olds

well as you said if you havnt come across it you cant test it and if these employers want sparks with 2391 ie experienced sparks in my opinion they should pay more for this skill as it was us who paid for the qualification in the first place rant over lol

The 2391-10 and the 2391-20 are knackered now, as is the 17th edition and a handful of others that are just about to get killed off/changed in the next 3 months or so....

I have seen jobs advertised with "recent 2391" on them......now it will be a new ticket with a new title and a different number.......and obviously a different date..go to an employer or an agency and they will say "nope....sorry no.....look clear off" and you will have to do the latest C&G to get work.....then something else will come up in a year or two and that won't be accepted either....
Recruitment agencies try to sell sell sell and that means that they will word things so as to "market" the benefits of the latest tickets(most recent completion dates) which in turn will mean that employers take this advice and start looking only for the people who have the very latest college certificates......" we supply our clients with only the most up to date candidates"......
In a world where other workers would have your gizzards for a fiver, there is no option but to do the newest courses......they will 100% definately be doing them, and they even get help with an ILA voucher.....do you really want to get kicked off a site just when you arrive for site induction?

Day 1 : Right then who's got such and such new tickets? hands up.....right you stay....the rest of you can go down the road I can't have you on my site......

Hi all I tend to agree with grantr37 at some point they will make 2391 defunct and you will need newer not necessarily better qualifications. You cannot for example say I have past 15th edition regs I dont need to do regs again , After all its a money making exercise, an industry within an industry as with health and safety training just look at the amount of tickets required in that field, can see us in future being covered head to toe in ppe .

Well I hope not, I don't mind updating regs every few years but if I've got to do 2391 again I will loose all faith in this trade

A lot of Scaremongering going on here, me thinks!! ....Fundamental trade qualifications never go out of date!!

Where EddieB got the notion that the ONC Electrical Engineering qualification is no longer recognised i don't know, but he couldn't be more wrong!!!

I concure, nobody is asking Steven Hawkings to re-take his degree....If you have achieved these qualifacations, you have,in my opinion, showed your level of understanding in that subject which also means your capable of keeping up to speed with your industries changes. And anyway,i'm not re-sitting that cycle proficiency test and tricky 25 metre breast stroke....
