The C&G told me that the 2392 was for introducing you to the testing procedure, whilst the 2391 assumes you know how to test.

WTF? You guys all here different?

It is a fundamental course but it was primarily based around single phase initial verification-from C & G:

What are the qualifications about?

A Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification gives you the necessary skills and confidence to inspect and test fundamental installations and conduct initial verification - a qualification that proves your ability.

well I'll be on the phone to them in the morning, I've got something completely different.

Then again C&G seem to be becoming just as useless as some training providers these days..

I was advised to do 2392 first, get some experience, then do 2391. I suspect that may have been part of the C&G sales pitch :p

Best advice here is READ THE QUESTION and understand what your being asked before you answer.
Reading old test papers is good and bad.
Just dont fall into the trap of thinking you know Question.
READ THE QUESTION!!
Hope this helps as it did me :)

Could well be worth looking at the chief examiners report for October 2010 that Lenny has posted, considering the dismal pass rate they will likely have another stab at similar questions, I have a pdf of the october exam if someone can tell me how to attach it to the thread

Be careful of Kitchers book, there are some 16th edition answers and excercises in my book which is supposedly 17th updated

also quotes 500V test current for insulation test on selv (not for seperation between selv and others which would be correct) and 40ms dis time for 100ma rcd at at 100ma which im pretty sure should be 300ms for a BSEN device

i expect these are all typos but still misleading

As it says, but now the learning begins. Got to get it into my head for exams in a couple of weeks. Lots to learn etc.

Day 4 was today. Recap over what we had done, any questions session, and then onto the previous test papers.

I looked at 4, and i have about 10 others as well. There is a pattern, certain questions always crop up, but worded different. The biggest problem i have is not reading the question properly in part B, and then not putting all the relevant info in the answer to get full marks. There were a couple of questions that i didn't answer because i didnt have a clue. But the ones i did answer i got right, because i didn't take all the info from the question i lost marks for not putting it all down, the annoying thing was i knew what the rest of the answer was. It is typical C&G, you really do have to study the question, grasp what they want you to say, and say it all. The part A section i managed to get 46 out of 60 without the book and within time:D, so something has gone in, a few others i answered using the wrong words, but i knew what i meant, and so would the marker, but they make the rules not me, so they are wrong.

One poor sod on the course hasn't taken any of it in, he has really struggled.
Cheers..........Howard
As iv mentioned before are lec also marks, Terminology is key, Also in the 15 mark answers there are normaly 4 key answers that must be in there or you automaticly will get 7 marks.
He also said they take the first answer in the longer questions, So if you jumble it up you get marked down.
I did my 17th a month before my 2391 so i think this helped me know end.
*REM* Line conductor NOT phase. I also wrote a legend at the top of my exam paper ie IRT= Insulation resistance tester LRO= low resistance Ohnmeter That saved me ALOT of time.
He said this is fine and i passed. Try not to waffle on.
1 more for you RTQ= READ THE QUESTION.
There wording is horrible you ll sit there rubbing your head, I found DONT sit on a question for to long i found if you carryed on the next few questions point you in the right direction of the Que you got stuck on(Hope that made sense)
I stuck my head in GN3 30 mins a day(I still hate the sight of that yellow book :p) and didnt for 2 days before the test, Then power read it the night before!
You either know the answer or dont.
Hope this helps.
Oh and it easy to say and not do, Try not to get stressed get there early have a brew.

Yep there are a lot of comments on Kitcher's book that are spot on. It is excellent re the testing part and photos but it is firmly stuck in the 16th when it comes to exam questions and revision; and the certification part is just an advert for niceic!

I was well annoyed with it as it it has "fully updated to the 17th edition" or something similar stuck on the front!!! It is however the book if you want to check on testing, much better than GN3.
