Started the 2391 course today. Interesting. I found out that there is a lot that i know, but there is more that i don't know, and quite a bit i was doing wrong on the paperwork, nothing too serious but wrong all the same, and I am Part P registered, god help us:D

But by applying common sense it all gets a lot clearer.

Onto the testing side of things tomorrow, lest see how much i can cock that up:eek:

Cheers........Howard

Good look mate,

All I can say is keep your head down and read the books fully to read the correct terminology etc as these where some of the things which was picked up by the chief examiner for the October exam in which in his reort there was a lack of.

Can you give us some examples, Howard, if they're not too embarrassing? You may not be the only one - perhaps we can all learn something here.

Mainly associated with the schedule of inspections, i have been completing the boxes as N/A etc when i should be tick or X. Apparently this is the where most of the failures come from, because it is easy to guess, not look it up, and get it wrong. Sorted now though, just got to remember it for the exams.

Best of luck with that mate sure you will get through. Can you clarify what you meant. I know it's a few years since I did my 2391 but I always thought

Tick - satifactory
X - unsatisfactory ( PIR only)
N/A - not applicable ie in a domestic prescence of under voltage devices.

Where were you actually putting the n/a to be wrong mate.

I am finding it fairly straightforward, it is a course to be approached with a lot of common sense from an electrical point of view, there is a lot to take in but none of it is complex. fortunately i have a lot of single phase testing under my belt, self taught from GN3 and dabbling with my own CU in the early days, but with experience i have got better, and now consider myself competent. This is a head start on the others on the course, as they dont have much experience or any test gear. I found today a bit easier than yesterday, as it was the theory behind the practical testing. I dont want to blow my own trumpet, or appear cocky, but so far on Safe isolation,Ze,PEFC,PSCC, Continuity, IR,Polarity, and Zs, i havent found anything out that i didn't already know or could do, be it single or 3 phase, I also know the acceptable results, so the practical should be OK. That said I will still be putting into practice and revising everything that i know over the next couple of weeks just to make sure i don't cock it up on some minor detail. I have 24 PIR's to do ASAP, so i have no excuses. I do need to brush up on the terminology (I am getting there) and revise a few basic formulaes, but i do need to to get sharper on the form filling, again this is not rocket science, but it does need to get into the head.

I will let you know how it goes again after day 3.

Cheers........Howard

PS yes it is a 4 day course. with practical exam 4-2-11, and written on 10-2-11.
