"Ive got my 2391 exam on Feb 10th. I was meant to sit in Dec but was snowed off.
Any tips for the exam? "
I sat mine in December - just!(enough snow to delay it by 3 days, but not enough to cancel).
Things I learned attending the course, revising every night, and finally doing the exam:
- just as memorising the last job you did is unlikely to be useful for today's job, ploughing through reams of past papers is just as pointless for the 2391 exam, unlike what most of us did for our 2381.
I mean sure doing 2 or 3 past papers so you get the hang of the format is fine, but don't turn it into a religion - your time is better spent going through GN3 day and night, as well as learning the sequence of each test totally by heart.
- the exam is just as much about your understanding of the English Language as it is about T&I and electrical principles: the way the questions are worded, the answers which are expected of you, and the clarity of your answers are all vital.
- timing: the past papers I did were all fine, and I must have completed them with 30 mins to spare.
... BUT when it came to the exam, I was still writing when time was called; why? Because when I did the practice papers I scribbled down extremely shorthand answers in a scrawl only I could read, but despite writing bullet point answers rather than essay type answers in the actual exam, I underestimated the time it actually took to write everything out! = important safety tip!!!
- Lastly, don't get all hung up on what you think the answer should be - for many of the questions, there is no "right" answer. A couple of times I got really stuck on the scenario questions, and I just thought in terms of how I would do things if I was on a job and had to get it sorted with an angry client breathing down my neck instead of an angry invigilator.
