2391 Refresher every 2 years ???

Madmac. Seens as though you say you want to look after everybody in the industry what is your thoughts on those who couldn't get an apprentiship and can't do the NVQ3 because they have no funding?

I don't pretend to be able to wave a magic wand regarding funding but have you tried a govt. grant? Also phone the union and ask their advice and say that you will become a member if they can benefit you with some sort of in-house training via the JIB/ECA because in Scotland I sat the 17th wiring regs through SELECT( Electrical Contractors Association Scotland), and the union covered about a third of the cost because I was a member. I mean if it's as straight forward as only having to gain this poxy NVQ3 then you should go for it and get a gold grade card which nobody can deny you!

electricalserve yeah i have exactly the same as you but i have nvq 3 done it aslongside my tech certs when doing my apprenticeship and i would guess im no more of a spark than you are just for having that qual

i worked for a firm no one had a jib card all good sparks its just an industry thing i suppose i mean i can drive as well as the next person but i aint got licence haha (joking)

Electricalserv, you can do your 2356 and subsequently obtain a gold card (if you wanted) while being self employed. That is exactly what I am doing! I have spent something in the order of 13 years (on and off at times) without any paper to my name and only very recently took up the 2330s and all the other bits that go with it. I suppose the issue comes down to competence but at the same time there is a point to be made with the standardisation of the electrical industry which is what JIB is all about achieving. I have spent many years sparking without a gold card (or any card for that matter) and look forward to spending many more years sparking with a gold card. I won't get involved is in the gold card and non-gold card divide as both have a place, but I will most certainly get involved in doing a job correct and making a complete mess of it. Now lets have peace.
