 Just got out of the 2391 written tonight ..... and it all started so well !! That rule of thumb calculation (tabulated x 0.8) cost me 5 marks. Really annoying because that's about one thing I actually knew, just didn't include it.

I thought it was a real bitch, getting my name down for the next re-sit in June !! How did anyone else find it ?

Practical tomorrow, seems quite straight forward !

Pete

Did mine tonight as well. Thought i had done reasonably well until I came out of the exam and talked to the others. Did a somewhat confused discription of the pfc test only for it to be pointed out to me later that it was a three phase installation not a single phase like i had done.
I think i was lulled into a false sense of security by some of the questions only to trip up on some of the later questions.
Only 8 weeks to wait now.

fingers crossed sometimes the results are out as early as four weeks. still long enough to wait though, thats the best thing about the C&G golas at least you know there and then how you have done

Yeah it was hard, and like you Gaz I explained single phase PFC as well. Oh well worse things happen at sea.
I thought it was a 6 week wait ? What percentage is classed as a pass does anyone know?

The pass mark seems to be a closely guarded secret. I wonder if they decide how many people they need to pass and then pick the appropriate pass mark. So its not a case of how well you did as much as how badly everyone else did. Having said that I did read a post that had it down as between 53 and 60%. Anybody else care to make a guess?

Just got back from the pub after taking the 2391 too.

I found it pretty hard too, just depends on how everyone else does I suppose!

Did anyone else get 500ohms for that maximum Zs for a 100mA RCD question?

I sat the exam and thought it was ok. Thought the limitations that had to be agreed that wasnt on a periodic inspection report was a tricky little one. All in all i think i did ok, This was my 2nd attempt!

Benny Boy i think you got that right. The formula for this question would be 50/0.1 = 500 ohms:)

Do you have to pay full amount for re-sit? I didnt realise you had to wait that long. Good luck to all of you who took it! And dont think about it to much!

I raced through the first 15 or so questions, but then lost a load of time in alll the diagrams requred for the ring final testing. So much so that I didn't complete the PFC question and used the last 15 mins to do the TNS EFL diagram.

I did spot the TP&N DB when describing the PFC test but only managed to describe Pefc and not Pscc as well. Oh bugger.

I got 500 ohms for the RCD calc and 0.9 ohms for the Zs calc later.

What about the certification - did you include a minor works certificate for the modificaiton to the lighting circuit? I didn't but afterwards realised I think I shoud have done.

I also struggled on 2 different ways to prepare the lighting circuit in the toilet for the IR test. I assumed the motiion detector was elctronic & therefore sensitive & described a test with L&N joined together to CPC on both sides of the detector - but a 2nd method? Go on somebody, make me miserable and state the obvious :)

The rest of it is a blur.

Practicals next!

Yup, mine was single phase PFC as well !

Asked about pass mark today, definitely no set figure, it apparently depends on the results obtained to ensure a standard is achieved irrespective of the difficulty (or easiness) of the particular paper !

Next re-sit is June.

I did mine at Proactive Technical Training in Tring, Herts. 4 day course = ÂŁ640 inc VAT

Re-sit of exam and 1 day revision (past papers) = ÂŁ175-ish inc VAT

Well impressed with them, did my 17th with them as well, they apparently have well over average pass rate.

Practical done today, passed okay but I thought it was quite tricky because of the paperwork !!

Answer to above is :-

2nd method would be testing at 250 v dc - half the marks secured though !!

Pete
