 Just got out of the 2391 written tonight ..... and it all started so well !! That rule of thumb calculation (tabulated x 0.8) cost me 5 marks. Really annoying because that's about one thing I actually knew, just didn't include it.

I thought it was a real bitch, getting my name down for the next re-sit in June !! How did anyone else find it ?

Practical tomorrow, seems quite straight forward !

Pete

Lenny, yes of course you're absolutely right. But.. The actual question that myself and EastAnglian didn't mention in dedtail was ..

"The toilet lights are controlled via a motion detector which cannot be removed during testing. State TWO alternative methods of preparing this circuit for the insulation resistance test " - 4 Marks

Don't suppose anyone managed to er borrow a copy of the paper? wouldnt mind having a stress free look at it. some off the questions seemed quite straight forward, so I'm wondering what i missed.

I'm not too worrried about the single phase pfc test description, i reckon we'll still pick up a few marks, I think they might have been looking for us to state that the PSCC would be bigger than the PEFC as its 3 phase though.

Gaz

Of course I don't have a copy of the questions because that is wrong and totally contrary to the rules of the City and Guilds examination boards.

I do happen to have a.... err.... very good memory and given a bit of time might be able to reproduce, sorry, recall some of the questions !

1. A new 3 phase circuit supplying an electric kiln has been installed in an existing installation. State the THREE documents that MUST be completed and issued to the client on completion of the work. (3 Marks)

2. State THREE documents on which the value of prospective fault current must be recorded. (3 Marks)

3. State THREE items of information that an inspector must have, which may be recorded on charts and diagrams, before carrying out an initial inspection. (3 Marks)

4. State THREE different examples off a limitation that may be agreed with a client which is NOT already stated on the Periodic Inspection Report. (3 Marks)

5. State from the test results shown, the most likely instrument to have been used
a) 0.03 Ohms (1 mark)
b) 125 M Ohms (1 mark)
c) 125 ms (1 mark)

6. State three situations where the human sense of touch could be used by an inspector (3 marks)

7. list the first three tests to be carried out on a newly installed radial circuit (3 marks)

8. State the effect on conductor resistance when
a) temperature is decreased
b) length is increased
c) csa is increased (1 mark each)

9. list the three different protective conductors that may be installed in most electrical installations (3 marks)

10. State:-
a) the relevant document to be referred to when considering the use of test leads to carry out an insulation resistance test (1 mark)
b) two characteristics of these test leads or probes (2 marks)

And I believe, that's the first half of Part A. 30 marks down, 30 to go and 90 on Part B.
I reckon everyone is feeling pretty confident right now, thinking " This 2391 'aint all that !!" .........

but stand by........ it gets worse ....... to be continued.

I did the exam on Thursday too. I thought it could have been much worse and I managed to answer all of the questions, but after speaking to others who took the exam I know I fluffed a few. For q21 I didn't put MEIWC, did everyone else?
Pete@HGE, it would be great if your 'memory' holds up a bit longer for you to get a few more questions up!

So when is the earliest we'll find out the results? Are they sent to us direct or to the college?

No I didn't either, i just thought why would you bother doing a minor works surely you would just put it on the EIC with the new ring cct. I pretty much wrote that as well.
Reading this threads making me more nervous than I was LOL.

That's why I didn't put it in too. Nor did I put in a PIR which many did at college.

I think in reality you would group it all onto one certificate to save time and energy. Plus i don't think the client would be to chuffed at having to pay for 3 different inspections. In the exam world though ..who knows. I had a pir for the original circuits, an eic for the new bit and a mweic for the slightly altered lighting circuit. A whole forest load of schedules of inspection and results. If you handed that lot over to a client it would have to be assessed as a fire hazard.

first load of questions i was really happy with and it lured me into a false sense of security and then i had writers block on final two drew little pics and stuff but probably not worth any marks.soon as i walked out i remebered exactly what i wanted to write...

So then, the mist is clearing and an image is appearing before me, yes, I think the memory is returning....

11. A ring final circuit has been installed and the continuity of its conductors successfully verified. State THREE outcomes and/or results to be recorded on the Schedule of Test Results. (3 Marks)

12. A test for the continuity of a protective conductor connecting the metallic gas service to the main earthing terminal during an initial verification is to be carried out. State the
a) Instrument to be used (1 mark)
b) action to be taken regarding the conductors (1mark)
c) action to be taken regarding the resistance of the test leads (1 mark)

13. State the earth return path, external to the installation, for EACH of the following systems
a) TN-C-S (1 Mark)
b) TN-S (1 Mark)
c) TT (1Mark)

14.State what happens to the value of insulation resistance when
a) the circuit length is increased (1 Mark)
b) the circuit length is decreased (1 Mark)
c) an installation is measured as a whole instead of the individual circuits (1 Mark)

15. List THREE different types of equipment which will require special consideration when carrying out insulation resistance testing, excluding dimmer switches (3 Marks)

16. State, from the formula Zs = Ze + (R1 + R2), what is represented by
a) Zs (1 Mark)
b) Ze (1 Mark)
c) R1 + R2 (1 Mark)

17 State the
a) purpose of the IP coding system (1 Mark)
b) level of protection provided by
(i) IPXXB
(ii) IP4X (2 Marks)

18. State THREE practical situations where BS7671 requires the use of an RCD with a maximum residual operating current of 30mA (3 Marks)

19. When using an RCD in a circuit forming part of a TT system, the following condition must be fulfilled: ZsI-delta-n is < or equal to 50V
a) state what is represented by I delta n (1 Mark)
b) Calculate the maximum permitted earth fault loop impedance for a circuit incorporating a 100mA RCD (2 Marks)

20. A test to establish prospective fault current is to be carried out on a single phase installation. State the
a) TWO tests to be carried out at the origin of the installation in order to determine the prospective fault current (2 Marks)
b) condition which MUST be verified once the value from a) above is obtained (1 Mark)
