Hi, I have heard that the 2391 course was changing, getting harder??
Anyone heard any gossip?
I am hoping to take the course in January.

as opposed to all other exams it is but all the others are multiple choice based.

It's hard because it's closed book and written, so the odds of multiple guess and finding it from reference material are waved.
The actual content is very simple in its own respect, you just have to know it.

It can be quite searching in its questioning style but a lot of them are pretty stupid questions IMO eg the questions that require you to remember specific parts of the certificates - in the real world you would just get your certs out and look at them, then fill them in, rather than trying to remember what was needed to complete them. They are not testing anything other than memory. There should be more questions requiring the application of knowledge. Considering its title i am yet to see a question on a paper that asks you to identify and justify a code!

The 2391-20 is quite possibly the most intense City and Guild exam for the electrical industry, I always found it amazing that there are very little jobs that involve any type of design work asking for this. I suppose it's a non entity exam in as much as it goes over the testing and inspection criteria but is deemed not sufficent for design work alone, as you then move onto HNc etc.

I helped a friend do his project earlier this year and was quite impressed with the project. It contained PV and heat pumps and quite a few 3 phase circuits.

That's a good point, I should have specified the 2391-10.
Wouldn't mind having a crack at the -20 but I doubt I would need it, so would be a waste of my money. Funding the -10 is a problem but alot of vacancies require it.
Although I am still hoping to make it as self employed, maybe a part time position would tide me over.

I did an update from 15th to 16 edition way back then did the 2391 i was on a roll and then did the 2400 i must have been mad but the 2391 was a tad hard did have to use my brain on that one , once id found it that is

im doing the 20 now. exam dec 8th, cancelled due to the snow. shame lol. im finding it harder than the 10. project is a challenge too, c&g want to proof read these things better.

No its not changing, and the next exam date is the 10th February 2011, nothing in January

sorry I always forget the long courses, good luck, that sounds like a March 10th exam
